Hi,
I have a birth certificate for my 4x grgran
On her baptism record it states that she was begotten by fornication between Mary Craig and Adam Forbes bapt on 24th November 1816, I believe that Mary Craigs mother is Margaret Booth/e and her husband is Alexander Craig. The witnesses of the baptism were James Wilson in Nethertown of Knockespoche? and William Booth in Auchmenzie
I cannot prove her(Mary Craig's) parentage or her date of birth, and wondered if someone else would have a better result than I have. I only have the information regarding her daughter, the other information I have tried to confirm using Ancestry, without any success. I also believe that Mary had at least one sister named Janet.
Working on the basis that Mary must have been 16-24 yrs of age, would give a birth date of abt 1792-1800 There is a possible 1784

Have you searched on scotlandspeople for the death certificates of any of the folk mentioned? Perhaps your ancestor was an informant?

flst,
I thought I had the right people, but looking at the dates, (the birth of her daughter sets the trend) and working backwards, Mary's parents are either not correct, or marys' birth date I had is not correct; and there are quite a few mary Craigs being born between 1700 and 1800
this has me running around in circles. Obviously 1700 is too early, it is a shame that they did not have the age of the mother when giving birth there must be quite a few cases when that sort of information would have been very handy to have and confirmed or denied a lot of things for a lot of researchers.
marcie. to answer your question in the past I have tried, but recently no I have not tried sp cant until my cheque is cleared.

Knockespoch and Auchmenzie are both beside "Clatt" in Aberdeenshire.
There are 6 female birth/baptisms for the surname "Craig" at Clatt between 1770 and 1816.
None have the forename "Mary" but is there one with a middle name Mary?
There are 5 Mary Craigs for Aberdeenshire during the same time period, 2 in Aberdeen City and 3 in the shire, but none for an area near Clatt.
Not the easiest one to work with.
Regards
Malky

if you are saying if I would like a copy I would and thank you very much. as monica knows this family became very confusing because both margaret forbes and her mother were producing children at the same time giving some of them the same forenames with only the surnames differing

and it does not help because although I tried to use search on ancestry it does not seem to work very well. I havee to wait to change my service provider and email address before I can rergister with scotlands prople to continue my research. more trustworthy I think than ancestry.
