Title: Neeson family Randalstown, Drummond, Antrim
Post by: cobba1982 on Friday 25 February 11 09:51 GMT (UK)
Hi there, I am researching my GGG Grandfather John Neeson.

John Neeson was born in Randalstown, Drummond, Antrim between 1817 and 1818.
He was a labourer until he was 17 years old. He then joined the Army serving in the 64th Rgt of Foot in Jamaica, Canada and India. He was discharged and settled in Scotland in 1857. I know that he was a Police Constable in Stirling, Scotland in 1861.
He married a woman named Catherine Atkins between 1843 and 1848.

Does anyone have any information on the Neeson family in Randalstown, Antrim?

Thanks so much for your help,

Best regards
Robbie Neeson

There were a couple of Neeson households close to Randalstown in the 1901 census:

www.census.nationalarchives.ie/pages/1901/Antrim/Randalstown/Maghereagh/919811/

You can also find quite a few around the area in Griffiths Valuation (c 1864):

Search under Neeson, Co. Antrim and parish of Drummaul.

Hello Cobba

Thank you for your PM. Yes, I have done research on the Neeson surname in Drummaul Parish. There were a few seemingly  distinct lines, and spanning the Roman Catholic and Protestant religions. It is helpful that your chap ended up in Scotland as,  although his marriage would be too early to have such info recorded,  his  death record, assuming he died in Scotland,  should give his parents' names. If you have these, it would be helpful if you could add same to this post, so that folks helping might try and establish which family group your chap may have linked with.

I am related to Peter Neeson of Randalstown and have a reasonable amount of information on him, if that is the family you are interested in. This family was Catholic.

Hi Kam
Let me know what aspects you would like.
I have his will, date of death, marriage record and  family details. He also had a son Peter.
was my Great Great Grandfather.
There were a few other Neesons in Randalstown and Antrim areas. These are pretty much adjacent.
I found a Henry Neeson in Antrim and another friend was tracking Dr Horace Neeson the latter was protestant I believe.
There were also Neesons in Ahoghill and round Ballymena.
