Do I have the correct Slopers???
Jane Sloper (1825-1872) bRushall married a Jonas Bailey in 1843.
I think her Fa and Mo were Simon Sloper (1801-?) and Alice Smith (1805-?) who married 02 May 1825.
Simons Fa and Mo again I think were Mark (C1762-?) and Sarah Smith (C1766 - ?) who married on 1 Mar or Apr 1787 they had 15 children(?)
All born in Wilts ???except Sarah born in Cambs. I have been able to glean some info from IGI but am not sure if these are the correct families
Can anyone help!!!

Hi
The best way would be to obtain the marriage certificate which would give you her father's name. That way you could be sure that you are following the correct family.
Unfortunately the Jane Sloper in Pewsey in 1841 is not with her family, so this may be the only way.

Thanks Groom. Have received the marriage cert of Jonas and Jane and their correct parents are:
Jonas - Jonas Bailey (Labourer)
Jane - George Sloper (Labourer)
so it looks like all the info I have from the IGI and others is wrong!!!
what a pity the MC of 1843 only gives the father with no mother recorded

Hi,
I have Jane Sloper in my tree (1st cousin 4x removed), so could probably help you.
Jane Sloper was baptised 1 Sep 1822 in Woodborough to parents George Sloper & Elizabeth Robbins.
George & Elizabeth also had a son named George, bap 21 Nov 1824 in Rushall.
George (snr) was bap 5 Oct 1800 in Rushall & married Elizabeth Robbins 20 Oct 1819 Rushall.
George (1800) was the son of William Sloper & Susanna Hale - these are my 4x gt grandparents.
Hope that helps :)

thanks for all above. Do you know if Jane married a Jonas Bailey 15 Apr 1843?? They went on to have 12 children??
l also have Jane as dying 9 Aug 1872? Jane is (if correct) a GGG Grandmother of my late wife.

Yes, I had a note that she possibly married Jonas, as I didn't have the cert I wasn't sure. But you mentioned you do have the cert and it states her father was named George, so there's a high chance it's the same Jane.
I don't have her in the census after 1851, is she consistent with her place/year of birth?

in 61 and 71 census they are in Manningford Bohune. Jane died in 1872 and Jonas remarried - Elizabeth Mary Potter (nee Sutton). In 81 and 91 they are in Manningford Village. Jonas died in 1891 (Dec) and Elizabeth died in 1926 (96 yrs old) No children that I can find for this second marriage.
There is a definite consistency in all of this although in the various censuses she gives her place of birth as Rushall (not far from Woodboro where her mo place of birth is given as)

Thanks for that info.
I believe she was born in Rushall, but bap in Woodborough where her mother came from. Often the 1st born was taken to the mothers parish for the baptism.

thanks very much for all your info. I feel that I now have the correct family. The IGI entry unfortunately gives a completely different set of families. Perhaps because there are two Janes!!!

So Sorry, I forgot to say... that my information has come from the parish registers, which I have viewed at the records office over the last few years. Just in case you wanted to make a note of this for future reference. :)

Sue
thanks again for all your help. Are the Parish registers on line??

I don't think the registers are on line but Wiltshire does have a BMD site (there's a link to it on this forum) for post 1837. I went to the records office which is now in Chippenham, where they have them on fiche. There are some transcription books available from places like Genfair & Parish Chest at reasonable prices.
Hope that helps
