Hi
The website www.localhistory.scit.wlv.ac.uk states 'Molineux Fold (in front of Molineux House and now under the ring road) is shown with that name in the 1938 Ordnance Survey Map but with the name Molineux Court in Wallis' map of 1827). '
Wolverhampton Archives might be able to help with a photograph (the archive holds a large collection of photographs which do not yet appear in the online catalogue) - or you could try writing to The Black Country Bugle.

'The Folds Of Wolverhampton' is by Anthony Perry.
I've looked in my copy and there is no mention of Molineux Fold.

Just used google search engine and found an article which mentions molineux fold. The article is entitled The wool trade in wolverhampton.I ive also seen it written as a note on the wool trade in wolverhampton, it is by Frank Sharman.

Success! - a small success, but nonetheless...
The 1919 OS map clearly shows Molineux Fold lying to the immediate southeast of Molineux Hotel - this is confirmed on the 1938 OS map.
Molineux Hotel was formerly Molineux House (not to be confused with the present JobCentre of the same name) and is now the Wolverhampton City Archives. Further confusion: the original main entrance to Molineux House was at what is now the rear of the property: the present main entrance was originally the back door. If you Google for a photo of Wolverhampton Archive, the shot will be of the present frontage.
There were houses on the righthand side (looking at the Hotel from the present frontage)
Now - I am as sure as sure can be that I have seen a photograph of these houses, but I cannot remember where I saw it. However, Wolverhampton Archives do publish a book about the history of Molineux House, and there may be further information in there.

Now I think of it: there was an open day at the archives last October, and one of the talks was about the history of the building: I'm sure that the photos included at least one of the row of houses that we now know was Molineux Fold/Court.

A little more information: Molineux Fold still existed in the 1950s/1960s: my dad worked on one of the houses at that time. The houses were owned by Hortons' Estate Limited, a company which owned quite a number of properties in the town.
Hortons' Estate Ltd still exists - address 31A Colmore Row, Birmingham B3 2BU - perhaps it may be able to help you?

Months after your original query, but I today picked up a brochure from the archives that has the houses in Molineux Fold shown on two photographs! Not great shots - the hotos are actually of Molineux House - but at least show something.
I picked up two copies, so if you'd like one, PM me with your snailmail address.##Cati

Hello
I have not been on roots chat for ages but went on today and saw your post I am not sure if you still have the leaflet due to the time lapse but thank you anyway for picking it up in the first place I will send PM with my email
Kind Regards Liz

I always thought that Molineux Fold was the alleyway that ran from opposite the back gate of my primary school (behind Giffard House on Wadhams Hill) down to the Wolves football ground.
That would have been in the 1950s, but I thought that it was still sign-posted as such much later than that. Or am I just confused?

Here's a map from 1938 showing Molineux Fold at the front of the then Molineux Hotel: the alley you're thinking of is shown as Molineux Alley. As opposed to Molineux Street, which was the end of the street I was born in.
-
Aha, so the fold was a yard at the front (or then back) of the Molineux Hotel. You're right that it was the Alley that I was thinking of but thought that I had seen a street sign for Molineux Fold somewhere down there.
Small world cati. I have a death certificate showing that the last address of a great aunt of mine, who died in the 1950s was Molineux Street.

Last time the thread was going, I had n't realised where it was! Been to archives by there a few times when it first opened. That maps very interesting cati. I decided to forego the pleasure of visiting the open day last saturday due to the weather.

Hi
You've probably got lots of photos by now but in case.
The Black country history website has a catalogue.
They say there is a photo in 1955 DX-994/4/2/78 .
It's supposedly at Wolverhampton Archives taken by the Wolverhampton Photographic Society

I decided to forego the pleasure of visiting the open day last saturday due to the weather.
It was a good open day, but full of wet people, their coats steaming gently...
