I'm not sure where to put this topic, so feel free to move where you think appropriate. :)
Alexander H. Muir born Dumbarton, Dumbartonshire, Scotland c1866 to parents Thomas McCunn Muir and Henrietta Latta.
He is in the Scottish census, living in Dumbarton in the 1881 census, but I can't find him after that.
There is a tree on A* with an Alexander H. Muir b c1866, Dunbarton dying in India (not known when). This tree has him married to Ellen H. Houston b 1872 Renfrew, Renfrewshire, SCO.
I'm assuming this Alexander H. Muir was either in the military or civil service.
I'd love to know if he's mine.
Any ideas,
Alison ???

When was this death in India?
Try the GRO overseas death indexes, including the military ones.
If you find his there, tell us what you find. If he was Army, you should discover his unit.

Hi neil1821
He's not in any of those indexes.
Thanks ShaunJ, I'd forgotton about Familysearch; I look so often for people and don't find anything, so it's not something I automatically do anymore. Perhaps I should. I didn't have any of the baptism details for Alexander or his siblings.
I'd love to know what he was doing in India. Another of those mysteries!
Cheers,
Alison :)

A bit late, but I have been researching Muirs for a friend, Graham Muir, who is Alexander Muir's grandson. He died of natural causes and was running a Jute Company in Bombay. Please contact me by personal message.
