I am looking for children baptised to George and Caroline Bryant (nee Rendle/Rendall) from 1821 when they were married to about 1836. I believe there should be 4 children as below
Henry abt 1826
Elizabeth abt 1830 (Particularly interested in this one - my GG GM)
Harriett abt 1831
George abt 1835
Thanks

Hi Dave
These parish registers are not on line yet. If you look on this page under Somerset resources you will see someone called Haselbury has these records and is happy to do a lookup. The Moderator for Somerset has requested that the lookups for these records should be put where you have requested. It might be useful to pm them.
Failing this you could join http://groups.yahoo.com/group/hbhundred
This is a free group who also might have these records if you look in their files. If they havnt transcribed them yet(they do them for Freereg) someone might do a look up for you. The advantage of joining nthis group is the increased liklihood of someone researching the same family as yourself.
Good Luck

Many thanks for the info. I am a member of the HBHundred group but have had no luck there.
I have just found out that at least some of the children were baptized with their mother's name even though the parents had married some years before.
Cheers and thanks again

Many, many thanks for the lookups, Margaret.
There is one other child who is reported to have belonged to George and Caroline. His name was Henry BRYANT (Rendle/Randell/Raindle???) purported to be born abt 1826. Would it be possible to have a quick look for his baptism, please.
He married Ann MITCHELL, I believe in Haselbury Plucknett, on 3 July 1852.
I am perplexed as to the reason the children were baptised some as BRYANT and some as a variation of RENDLE. The same Curate officiated at all baptisms (and marriage). Surely they would have been fairly well known in a small town like Haselbury Plucknett.
We will be visiting H.P. in early May during our trip to the UK.
Cheers and thanks again

Hi Dave,
You probably will never find out why, your relation used an asumed name. But he must have had a reason for doing it. I am sure it would have been very unnerving to the Minister at the time. The surprising thing is that the Minster did not put Alias Bryant or Rendle on the Childrens Baptisms, the only place it is shown is on his Burial. I am sorry I cannot help with your Henry's Marriage as I only have Marriages till April 1841. But I have gone further into the Registers and below is what I found for you.

Thanks again, Margaret.
The information is very much appreciated.
I am now looking into the possibility that Hannah baptized May 7, 1826 was at the time entered incorrectly and should have been our missing Henry.
We cannot find any other trace of a Hannah apart from the baptism.
Thanks for your assistance, Margaret.
Cheers

Hi David,
I have re-checked the Baptism Register, and it is clearly defined an entry as
Hannah Daughter of George + Caroline.
But I had a more indept look through the Register for your Henry. Henry was not the son of George aand Caroline. Below defines why.

I did not find a Burial for Jonathan perhaps he was buried in West Chinnock.
Check out the 1881 Census as there is Hannah's that were Born in Haselbury listed there with their husbands. Such as
Hannah wife of Jonas Hillier aged 57 Born Haselbury living at North Street Haselbury RG11 2389/101 P14
Hannah Wilkins wife of William and so on, Also remember that Hannah's were often than not called Ann as well.

Hello Margaret,
Sorry for taking so long to reply but have been away. Once again, many thanks for all the research you have done for me on the Bryant's/Rendles. It is much appreciated.
I don't think anyone in that Jonathon's family ever used the name Bryant, though. Our Henry married in 1852 in Haselbury Plucknett as Henry Bryant.
It would be interesting to see if the father is mentioned in his marriage records. I know you have access only to marriages up to 1841 and it seems that's what the Somerset Heritage Centre has also. Would these later records be available at the Haselbury Church do you think. I will be visiting the church next month and maybe I should email ahead to see if I can view any records there.
Anyway, thanks again.
Cheers
David

Hi David,
As the Marriage took place 159 years ago, the Church may not still have the Records onsite. The Records could be at the Religious Denomination Head Office. If the Marriage is listed in Free BMD's I would be applying for the Marriage Certificate.
Regards Margaret

All ok, Margaret. I will get the marriage certificate. Thanks
