Hi have you had a look on Google Maps it is a small place outside Melton Mowbray, so yes I would think at least a village, not my area but I am certain someone will fill you in with more detailed knowledge of the area, but have a look on Google ok!

In 1901 Brampton Ash came under the Market Harborough district.

Today it's a village very near Stoke Albany.

Use www.streetmap.co.uk

Its a nice little place. One church. quite a big one with floodlights in the grounds so possibly lit up at night. A farm and a dozen or so houses. All of them out of my price range.

No shop or post office as far as I could see. It does have a telephone box, an old fashioned red one.

Thank you for reply I found my Grandmother in the 1901 census , she was working as a Domestic servant for a family called BERRY. There were four children in the 1901 cenus it stated the eldest son age 19 and he is a farmer son there is no precise adress given. I am guessing they were a farming family. I would like to know if the farm is still there . Once again thank very much  for your reply AMANDA :)

Hi I have had a quick look at the documets in my possesion in regard to our property. Just to give you the background to the village.
Most of  the properties  and land was owned originaly by the Spencers ( Earl Spencer of Althorp). Lady Diana,s Grandfather.
The document I have have refers to the transfer of the land to the Cunard Pension Trustees and lists all the properties.Dated 1926.
There are a number of farms listed, some can still be identified and all would most probaly still exist as the Building. My best guess would be that your Ancestor worked for a tenant farmer, who rented the Land from the Spencers.
Interesting a E W BERRY is listed as Occupier of Cottage No 19.
I will do some more investigations and let you Know.
If you have any specific questions please let me know.
Best regards
