Hi
Has anyone come across the surname Sreawn or variations thereof.
My Great Grandmother's maiden is recorded as Winifred Sreawn and her father as Patrick Screawn (in Warrington). Patrick is shown as having been born in Ireland.
My guess is that this is a phonetic spelling.
Can anyone help?
Many thanks

If you can give some dates, ages or other details (eg where are these two variations of the name recorded?), people can have a look at the censuses and other records and see if they can help you.

Thanks to you all.
My Winifred Screawn (or Sreawn as its recorded on the marriage certificate) married Thomas Graham in 1909 - the year my grandfather William was born).
I've done what I can with the census and could well be missing something - given the census takers were often very nearly as illiterate as the people they were counting!.
Winifred (also recorded as Winnifred) appears to have been born around 1888 and died in 1955.
As ever, any help gratefully received.
Thank you

Hello,
I have a feeling that I have seen this before but as I can't see a reply from me- perhaps I just looked it up at the time and was waiting your reply.
However - this is what I recalled and have found again.
