Hi, can anyone help me find any pictures of my old street, Shawpark Street in Maryhill, Glasgow, cannot find one anywhere, Thanks in advance.
-
Hi Eliza,
Welcome to Rootschat! :)
If you 'Google' Shawpark Street, Maryhill, Glasgow (using the 'images' tab rather than 'web' tab), there's a couple of photos.
Alternatively, have a look at the 'Virual Mitchell' site: http://www.mitchelllibrary.org/virtualmitchell/index.php?a=district
This link should take you direct to the 'area' search. Choose Maryhill and there's loads of images of all around the area. I'm not sure whether Shawpark Street is there as I didn't look through all the pages.

hi eliza,
i can recall going to shawpark street when still at school (shakespeare primary)and people there were named scott think father was postman there house was where womans. centre is now
-
Hi Harrywrag, thanks again.
My old School was Shakespeare too and the close I lived in Shawpark Street is also where the Womens Centre is now. I have been trawling the net for ages trying to find a pic of my street, but with no joy, wish I had taken some pics of it way back then, if only I had known it was going to be pulled down. That name Scott rings a bell, I was only 10 when we moved from the street to further down Maryhill but can still remember most of the people who lived there, good decent people.

My mother (Julia Graham) went to Shakespeare School too and has a class picture (the only one she ever remembers being taken) from 1946 or 1947. Does it fit in with your timeline?
-
Hi Melinda, thanks for your reply. I went to Shakespeare from 1962-67 but my dad and all of his brothers and sisters went there too in the 1930's/40's. I would love to see your mums pic as my dad's younger brother would have been at the school around about the same time as your mum, he sadly passed away aged only 15 in 1954, he would have been at NK during that time. Eliza.

Send me a PM and I will email the picture to you. Won't be seeing my Mom until next week so I will send it then.
