If anyone is visiting Stafford RO in the near future, could you do a look up for me please?
I'm looking for the marriage of Elizabeth Fern to Thomas Dukes: Familysearch have this as 22 October 1712 in Yoxhall - if someone could confirm for me the exact wording of the parish register entry you win the undying gratitude of Cati...

Hi Cati, Just noticed that you have the Hartland surname in your interests. My great-uncle was Vincent Hartland b1897, married to Maude Johnson. I don't know much about the Hartland family as yet, though I believe Vincent was the youngest son of John (c1846 - 1919), by his second wife Ann Maria Billings. I believe John's first wife was Sarah Pickin, by whom he had at least 3 children, one of whom was Gertrude who married a Mr. Horobin. None officially confirmed by certificates as yet, but I wondered if we have a link?

Hi Giraffe
I have a possible John Hartland bap 1803, son of Edward Hartland and Mary nee Fellows, and a John Hartland b 1821 son of Edward Hartland (possibly the same parents if the first died young) but not your John.
Keep me posted with your Hartland discoveries!
If you find 'Fellows' as a middle name, or coffee mill making Hartlands, we have a definite link somewhere.

Thanks Cati, will bear them in mind, though I have only just started researching this branch.

Hi Cati
My great grandfather is Albert Henry Hartland, married twice. Second wife was Dorothy Edith White, my grandfather Claude Charles Hartland (89 this year) was their son. Albert died young (40), brother was Vincent, wife Maude, attended Albert and Dorothy's wedding, witnessed on the marriage certificate. Albert and Vincent's father was John, profession was Engine fitter. My grandfather said that his father, Albert died when he was only 6mths old, so I'm desperately researching his family whilst he is stilll with us so that I can shed some light for him :)

Hi Pyrennean
I haven't got any of the names you mention amongst 'my' Hartlands, but Hartland is an incredibly common name in the Midlands.
The GRO indices show a registration of death in the March quarter of 1923
for Wolverhampton for Albert H Hartland aged 40 who I think is your g grandfather: his birth was registered in the Sept quarter of 1882 in Wolverhampton.
The indices also show a marriage of Albert Henry Hartland to either Kate Jones or Adelaide Fletcher in the March quarter of 1905 and that Albert married Dorothy in the March quarter of 1921.
I can't see a death registered for Adelaide Hartland: Kate Hartland's death was registered in Wolverhampton March quarter of 1919 - she was aged 37
Hopefully you can now find Albert Henry Hartland on the 1891, 1901 and 1911 census returns.

Hi Cati, I am sorry but the Fiche was very bad to read, but in the printed parish book of Yoxhall, only gave the same information you allready have, apart from Elizabeth's surname is spelt Hern. I hope this may have been of help!.
Regards Sue45.

Many thanks Sue
This raises another problem on this tree: Family Search shows a marriage for the same names (Hern) on the same date in Wombourne!
Back to the drawing board....

Hi Cati,
Thank you for your reply, I realised afterwards that m post should have been addressed to giraffe instead. Thank you so much for the additional information though, I know Albert (my G granfather) was married before Dorothy, it states on thei marriage certificate that he was widowed. The year I was aware of but the wife's name I was unsure of, thank you the lead might help :)

Cati,
I noticed that you had Cox also as your interest. Perhaps we might have a link somewhere, Dorothy married Arthur Cox after Albert Hartland died. Arthur and Dorothy had only one daughter Joan.
-
Hi Pyrennean
My only Arthur Cox (so far) was grandad, who wasn't married twice: my Cox line come from Stafford and before then from Devon. Some of them were baptised with the surmane 'Dominy', but that's another story...

It seems we may have a link here, my great uncle was Vincent Hartland b.1897 Wolverhampton , married 1927 to Maude Mary Johnson b 1896, youngest sister of my maternal grandfather David Richmond Johnson. I will pm you if you want more details, but I have more details of the Johnson family than the Hartlands.

Cati,
My Hartland/Johnson family were strong Methodists, they lived in Penn, Wolverhampton, which I think borders on Wombourne, if that is any help,
