Title: British Chaplaincy, St Petersburg, Russia
Post by: maidmarian on Friday 18 February 11 11:46 GMT (UK)
I'm trying to trace the record of the birth of FRANCES MATILDA MARY CUMMING, who was born in 1827 - perhaps at the British Chaplaincy, St Petersburg, but definitely in Russia.  There is some confusion as to whether her birthplace was St Petersburg or Moscow.  Her parents were ENGELBREDT CUMMING  and FOMA UPTON LISTER.  Would any such record actually exist?

Her father's marriage and birth do seem to be registered there - https://www.familysearch.org/
He is given the full name Boswell Engelbredt Cumming, and he had a brother James Alexander Cumming who had several children baptised in the same place in the 1830s onwards. There are no children found there for her parents, though.

In some of the censuses in Scotland after her marriage she appears to say she is born Moscow. There was also a British Chapel in Moscow (now St Andrew, Moscow), from 1825, and the London Metropolitan Archive seems to hold some info on baptisms there. Unlike the St. Petersburg records, as far as I can find the Moscow records are not available online.

Well.... i have it on quite good authority ( my mother) that she was born in St. Petersburgh in 1830 and died in Frankfield Kirkcaldy in 1920........ she was my great, great, grandmother. I have a portrait of her..... I could send you a photo if you like.

May I ask what is your connection/ interest in her?

Hi,

Thank you for getting back to me.  I apologise for not getting back to you sooner, but I've been away and have only just read your post.

I don't have any connection myself to Frances Matilda Mary Cumming, but am researching her for a friend of mine, who is her great-granddaughter.  I've spoken to her and she would be thrilled to see a photograph of her great-grandmother.

Are you able to tell me how you are related in more detail, so I can find out how you are connected to my friend?

I look forward to hearing from you,

Best wishes.

I am working on a WILLIAMSON family, Robert WILLIAMSON born about 1801 in Kirkcaldy, married to Frances CUMMING born 9-11-1813 in Russia, died 1900 in Kirkcaldy. The death record has her age as 84. They had 9 children, all born in Russia. Her parents are Alexander CUMMING and Ida (surname unknown).
There appears to be two Frances CUMMINGs and there may be some confusion about them. Any clarification would be most appreciated.

Where are the physical records now? A marriage was registered in 1856. Are the records likely to show anything other than the names of the couple (e.g. their parents names, addresses, ages, etc.)?
