Title: Finding workhouse burial records
Post by: ellistown on Thursday 17 February 11 12:17 GMT (UK)
Hi,

I am trying to find out where people in the NAas Workhouse would have been buried. The person in question died in 1918 but no records for the family plot stretch that far back and I don't suspect that if they were in the workhouse they could have afforded a funeral.

All information greatly appreciated.

Donaghmore Workhouse, outside Borris-in-Ossory, has a burial plot at the rear of the workhouse, where bodies were interred and has only one Cross on top to cover all burials.
Abbeyleix also has one in the grounds.

If you email the Kildare Genealogy Department they might be able to help you.

Athy Workhouse had it's own little graveyard just near the canal. It's recently been cleaned up and looks great. There are some metal crosses in it and a few headstones (where people in later years are buried) however there is one large headstone rembering all who died in famine years. Sams Mam
