I don't think it starts with Ll - see the birthplace column for lots of Lls for comparison.

Census ref is RG09/4117/17/6

It looks like a house name, every house has a different name. ???

EDIT:  From my vast knowledge of Welsh  ::) "fach" means little.

I notice that next door is Waslodwen - compare the W with that for William - so it's Waslodwenfach :)

I've been strolling through and I'm not sure that it is Ll - the rest of the name is ?astadwenfach   It's next to Tyr mynydd and just along from Quarry bach

JL

(I see that Geoff & 1  agree about the Ll  :D )

Wondering about that second T actually being a T,Geoff.Could it be the cross stroke from the first one?

Ah JL just seen that,a D then.

One of the sites I've checked has it beginning with a W - thus Wastodwen fach as Geoff has edited in!

* or Wastadwen fach

Da iawn with your fach/bach, Geoff

Thinking about it - I think it should be Wastad  from Gwastad meaning flat or level and then wen from gwen/gwyn = white

So - a little white level place  :D

I've not done much Welsh since 3rd form  ::)  :-X

"The History of Llanelli" by David Bowen (1856) mentions a Wastodwen Farm  :)

So what does Wastod/Gwastod mean then  ???

I don't see a possible at the moment except gwast meaning waist  :-\

Would it not be  a miss spelling or Wastad/Gwastad.

but Wastod wen fach = always a little smile  :)

it's Wen for smile not white (from gwenu)

Hi there,

Are you sure that it is Swansea area you are looking at here.
]There was a Llanelly covering Breconshire and Monmouthshire as well.
