Title: Tyrone Place.....Park St......Whitehall.....Crumlin?
Post by: gnikdivad on Tuesday 15 February 11 12:20 GMT (UK)
Hello
My Granddad and his siblings were all born at different locations in Dublin during the late 1800 and early 1900s.
I cant find these locations on any modern map they are
4 Tyrone place, Killmainham, Dublin
6 Park Street Inchicore, Dublin
2 Labourers Cottages, Whitehall Road
4 Innismore terrace, Crumlin, Dublin

Can anybody help with the location of these areas?

Kind Regards
David

in Thoms 1922

Tyrone Place I can't find, though it says see under Goldenbridge. However I see it on the current Dublin street map off St Vincent Street west (which runs south from Emmet Road) - maybe the old Tyrone Place was knocked, and this is a different one

Park Street seems to be off Sarsfield Road. On the modern map it looks as if it's to the North.

Whitehall Road ?? there's one in Kimmage and one in Churchtown?

Innismore terrace is mentioned but no detail. On the modern map there's an Innismore and an Innismore Terrace(St Mary's Road) - maybe it's been renamed St Mary's Road (just south of Our Lady's Hospital in Crumlin).

I hope Shane will be able to add to this rather lame stuff!

There's three townlands named Whitehall in Co. Dublin - the one between Churchtown and Rathfarnham (roughly at Nutgrove S.C. and the old H.B.) the one in Kimmage/Perrystown and another close to Tallaght. There's also an area named Whitehall near Collins Ave./Beaumont... but I think the best fit is the one near Kimmage.. Part of Whitehall Road runs along the northern edge of this townland.

Is the address from a cert of some type ?

If so the Registration District and Superintendents district details can help confirm which is being it referred to..

From the Dublin City section of Thom's 1914 :

Tyrone place - formerly Richmond street and Cooper's Hollow
   seventeen small cottages

As per the 1922 details that eadaoin mentioned the street index lists Tyrone place as being in Goldenbridge.

Here's Tyrone Place on the c1890s OSI Map : Tyrone Place (http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,711878,733296,7,9)

It's located in Goldenbridge and close to the current locations of St. Vincents St and Emmet Crescent

(select the historic 25" option to see the correct map.)

.......

Park street (http://maps.osi.ie/publicviewer/#V1,711261,733897,7,9) ... exactly where eadaoin described, to the north of Sarsfield Road  (select the 25" map)

Yeah Shane it is from a Birth cert
Info as follows
Superintendent Registrars district = South Dublin
Registrars District = Crumlin
Birth Registered in the district of Crumlin in the Union of South Dublin

I am guessing from this info it is the one near Kimmage that makes the most sense.
I wonder are those labourers cottages still there, I doubt it!

The Registrars District of Crumlin must be more recent than the list I have (1880s), as there's no sign of it.

The other Whitehall (Nutgrove) is listed in the Rathfarnham registrars district.

Think I've found a mention of the cottages in Thom's 1914... they are listed as being in Templeogue, and in the section for Terenure.

The Templeogue listing includes Auburn Villa occupied by a Rev. Richard Newell, and an F.W. Fawcett at Whitehall House, both of which were Whitehall Rd and also includes an entry with 'Whitehall, 12 cottages'

Hi David

Innismore Terrace was in Crumlin Village itself. I'm familiar with the area you are talking about.
There were cottages in the village but I am not sure whether they were part of innismore terrace.

The innismore that exists today was built from land that originally belong to the old innismore terrace. In relation to Whitehall Road it is not too far from Crumlin Village, but there is a Whitehall Road West which is within walking distance of Innismore, Crumlin Village. There used to be cottages on Whitehall Road West and I think the last of them was demolished aprox 10 - 15 yrs ago. From my memories there used to be a cobbler/shoe repairer in one of the cottages. He was the last one in the cottages.

There a a few books on Crumlin village, one in particular Growing up in Crumlin Village, by Billy French
I think there is another book on crumlin but i will have to ask my dad.

Another site to check out is  http://eriu.homeip.net/crumlin/cgi-bin//pages.cgi?id=7

and another site which i have found very useful is http://www.dublin.ie/forums/

If you are doing a search on crumlin I would also google walkinstown, Dublin 12 as crumlin and walkinstown, i.e. you could be on one side of the street and its crumlin and the other side is walkinstown.

If you go out of town and come to Emmet Road in Inchicore, you come to a small hill that (used to be, not sure if still) called Spa Road.  This used to house the Vanhool Macardle Bus building depot.  If you go up that hill you come out on Vincent Street.  Right across from you is a complex of flats and they are called Tyrone Place.  There isn't a street or road called Tyrone Place, its the flats.  I know the flats were well established back in the 60's but don't know how long before that.  You may get a picture of them as they are on the road very close to Goldenbridge Convent of Mercy and the now infamous orphanage.  Hope this is of some help to you.

Also regarding "The Ranch".  Saw lots of pictures of there and of people named in them recently.  Trying to remember where but think it may have been on Flickr under the tag Inchicore.

Yeah that is exactly where Tyrone place used to be.  The actually estate is gone now and those flats were billt in its place.  My family lived there at the star of the 1900s when it looked more like this

I did not know that flats were called Tyrone place though, hopefully they have a road sign that I can photograph.

Thanks for the help
