Would it be possible to get these 2 images.  Right now I am interested in the Corbetts.  I look at Dalserf on Google maps a lot -- looks lovely -- wish I could look them up myself.

morning Sancti
Twitter, again. I was curious as one of the names you posted was Scouler and that's an alternate spelling for Sinclair. My James was in the parish of Dalserf prior to his marriage to Margaret in "38" and since he doesn't appear to be in Glassford, might this be a family stone. Does the stone say anything else?
A long shot to be sure but worth a try.

No one photo inparticular but all of those with reference to Campbell, Henderson, Hamilton, Harvie, Cadzow.
As a decendent of a family from this area I find this fascinating and great that you have gone to the trouble of recording each headstone and inscription. I will be in Dalserf next week so it will be nice to see any that stand out in person.

Many thanks

Camhenham

Hullo, Would it be possible to have a copy of the headstone in Dalserf Churchyard that has the name Watson please? I know I have Watson relatives buried here but not sure about the other headstones that include the Watson name. I've just started a Watson family history so this is great. Thank you so much.

Hi Linda, welcome to Rootschat.

It would be a great help if you could narrow the search down by supplying maiden surnames within the Weir family. There are a few Weir headstones in Dalserf churchyard and it would save a lot of transcribing if you could narrow it down by names and, if possible, time periods.

Lodger.

Hi again,
The key people I am looking for info on are as follows:
Alexander Weir, born about 1787, died before 1850 (this is as far back as I have got, so any info on Alexander's parents and/ or siblings would be extremely useful!)
His Wife Janet Weir (nee Currie), born about 1787, died 1860
Their child, Alexander Weir, Born 1812, died before 1855
Alexander's wife Marion Weir (nee Eglinton), born 1811, died before 1855.
Their other Children, William born 1808, Janet born 1810 and James born 1814, died 1882

Thanks for all your help in this - it is very much appreciated.
Linda

There are no Weir gravestones with any of those other surnames, sorry. Are you 100% sure that they are buried in Dalserf churchyard? The 1860 death certificate for Janet Currie should confirm her place of burial.

Do you have any place names within the parish? Where died Janet die? Was it a farm? There are quite a few Curries buried in Dalserf, do you know who her parents were?

Sancti may know more as he has photographs of the gravestones.

Hi again,
My family of Weirs lived in Rosebank, Dalserf - and the few death certificates that I have say that they died there too.  Do you know if Rosebank was a farm???  Their occupations were blacksmiths and gardners.  Janet Currie's parents were William Currie and Janet paterson.
Can you tell me some of the details of the Weirs that you know of in Dalserf, as surely they must be relatives???
Thanks for all your help.
Linda

Post by: Lodger on Wednesday 08 October 14 12:42 BST (UK)
Hi Linda,

No luck in the monumental inscriptions with a Currie/Paterson combination, sorry!
Rosebank is a small hamlet on the south bank of the river Clyde. It is tiny now but, 200 years ago it was a very busy river crossing and could boast five pubs. 100 years ago there would have been coal mining around the area and lots of fruit farms, so plenty of "incomers" to the village.
It was situated in the civil parish of Dalserf and Dalserf church and churchyard are just a stones-throw away on the banks of the Clyde.

There are a couple of headstones at Dalserf that you may possibly link into -

"Erected by Robert Weir in memory of his father John Weir who died 11th November 1847".
The problem there is, no wife's name to corroborate the family.

Another one is -
"Erected by Robert Weir in memory of his mother Marion Norris who died 18th December 1846 aged 62 years. (Wife of William Weir). Also his brother John who died 25th May 1850 aged 28 years".
It goes on to mention his own children but you get the idea!

Another one -
"William Weir 14th January 1841 - 15th December 1920. His wife Margaret Gilfillan 31st October 1846 - 7th April 1890".

This next one is the oldest and the most interesting but, this family were probably farmers, not blacksmiths.
"1775 The burial place of John Weir, Overtoun of Dalserf and his family". On the other side of the stone the inscription reads - "William Bow, heir to this stone. His wife Jane Bryson died 24th May 1857 aged 46 years. Their daughter Jane died October 1859 aged 6 years".

Overtoun Farm still exists but this doesn't mean to say that the above John Weir was the owner or tenant of the farm. He may have been a farm hand or, back in 1775 there may have been a small community living there and all that has survived into the 21st century is the farm itself.
If you could find a link into the Bow family that would be helpful. If William Bow was "heir to this stone" it implies a family connection, he may have been a grandson.

Hope this helps,

Lodger

Fabulous - I will do a bit more digging and see what I come up with.  I actually now live in SW France, but I am going back to Scotland to see family this Saturday, and if I can, I will take a trip down to Dalserf and see for myself.  Thank you so much for all your help and info.....

Hello Dmbostwi,

Welcome to Rootschat.

Looks like Sancti is having a break at the moment, he has the Dalserf photographs, I don't have any but, I do have transcriptions. If you do not already have them, I can give you the transcriptions for WEIR & NORRIS. FRAME & MORTON. FRAME, HUTCHISON & BLACKWOOD.
There are 16 stone with FRAME mentioned in some way (sometimes whole families, sometimes just someone's middle name) too many to transcribe to Rootschat, can you narrow it down by supplying other surnames?

Thank you for your response. The ones I am most interested in are Frame and Morton as believe they are for my 6x's great grandparents John Frame and Alison Morton who married in Nov 1737 in Avondale.

I am interested in both the Weir/Norton & Hutchison/Blackwood because I have a William Hutchison married to Marion Weir in Carmichael Parish in March 1745. Both died in Carstairs but I am interested in seeing if those listed are related to mine. My Hutchison eventually became farmer of Kirkmuirhill.

As for all the Frames stones - I believe John Frame & Alison Morton parents to be John Frame & Margaret Milne and James Morton & Janet Hyall or Fyall.
John & Alison's son was also John Frame who married Elizabeth Wilson...
and their daughter was Helen Frame who married John Bryson (my 4th great grandparents)

I would be interested if anything regarding the Bryson name.

I had quick look for other surnames of Lanarkshire.

I've confirmed 3 generations of William Hutchison so would love if anything found for
William Hutchison/Margaret Dun or Dunn
William Hutchison/Jean Bryson (daughter of John Bryson and Helen Frame)

Thank you for post William Currie.
I had originally responded to post indicating an interest for following:
WEIR
WEIR NORRIS
FRAME
FRAME MORTON
FRAME HUTCHISON BLACKWOOD

All names are of interest but Frame Morton and Hutchison especially so. I have birth & marriage information for John Frame (b 1715 Oct 30 Avondale) who married Alison Morton (b 1714 Apr 9 Fife) 1737 Nov 4 in Avondale  . I don't have death information for either so I wonder if the Frame Morton reference in Dalserf churchyard is for same. I also have several generations of William Hutchison/Hutcheson & spouses: William Hutchison b 1790 Lesmahagow d 1867 Kirkmuirhill & Jean Bryson 1795 Avondale d 1877 St Rollox; William Hutchison b 1754 Douglas & Margaret Dun b 1758 Lesmahagow (I have no death info for either); & William Hutchison b  1730 Cadder-d1783 & Marion Weir Carnwath b 1725- d1818 (both died in Carstairs).
Whether you can assist or not, I appreciate the response. Season's Greetings.

Thank you for checking Lodger. I really appreciate it. I'll have to go back and re-read the posts to determine why I thought this was right forum for my names. I suspect I might need to move them to a different churchyard. Again, your help was great.

There are 22 stones in Dalserf churchyard with the name Thomson. The MIs in the booklet I have were transcribed in 1983, so many will, by now, be unreadable. On some, Thomson may just be the name of an in-law, on others there are whole families of Thomsons.
Perhaps your Alexander is in a family plot but isn't mentioned on the stone. (If a stone was there in the first place and if it has survived).
Do you have his parents or grandparents names?

sorry, there are no Philips surnames in Dalserf. Because he lived in Millheugh I've checked Stonehouse and Glassford churchyards just in case but no luck. He may be in the Bent at Hamilton or, if he was Catholic, he could be in Dalbeth.
