i am looking for children of MARTHA JACOBS. i have martha living with her father for most of her young life unmarried. also in the household for 71 census is MARY JACOBS born 1859 west parley dorset and ANN JACOBS born 1865. these are listed as grandaughters to the head who is marthas father. later in 1876 martha married george jacobs. on the 1881 census there is another daughter called ADA JACOBS born 1873. she is listed as stepdaughter to the head who is marthas husband.
i would really like to know who was the father of marthas children, was it george even though they werent married?
many thanks

Hi,
FreeBMD has this birth registration:
Mary Jacobs SepQ 1858 Wimbourne 5a 259
This could be "your" Mary as West Parley is in the Wimborne (correct spelling!) registration district.
There is also this baptism on the Dorset OPC site, West Parley page:
26th September 1858 Mary Jacobs, father not given, mother Martha.

Feb 7 1875 Baptism Edith Janet Jacobs father not given Mother Martha single West Moors. Is this another of your Martha's children and if so what happened to her as she isn't with Martha and George in 1881.
Reg of birth of Edith Janet Dec 1/4 1872 Wimborne vol 5a page 273
Who is the Mary with George and Martha in 1881 down as granddaughter age 5. Is she one of Martha's daughter's children?
I followed Martha back through the censuses to 1841 but no clues there as to the father of the children.
In 1861 Martha's brothers Mark and Joseph are on the same page with their families. No sign of George.
Just in case Martha or the parish tried to get some monetary help with her children it may be worthwhile seing if there is any Bastardy Bond information for that parish
