Title: John Remington - born circa 1818
Post by: Craig Mollekin on Monday 14 February 11 15:09 GMT (UK)
Hi,

I am attempting to trace the Remington/Remmington family of March, Cambridgshire.  Specifically, I am attempting to find out more about the ancestors and siblings (if any) of John Remington who was born around 1818 in March.  On John's 1855 marriage certificate, John's father is named as John, but that is all I know.

Does anybody have access to a data disc of some description which might have the baptism data for John born 1818 which in turn might help find marriage data for John's parents and births for John's siblings, if any?

Kind Regards,

Craig

Hi Craig,

Have a look at the Cambridgeshire Baptism Index 1801-1837 on
http://www.cfhs.org.uk/BaptismIndex/

Just enter surname (do each variation seperately) and the Parish and leave other sections blank.  Several come up that may be of interest to you.

Hi Craig John was baptised at March parish church on 13 Jul 1828 aged 11, also baptised same date was Rachel aged 9 and James aged 7. Parents shown as John and Sarah formerly Bond. The March prs show that John and Sarah were married on 8 March 1810, he a wdr and she a sp.

Hi Selina and norfolkandgood,

Many thanks for the link and information.  I reckon I must nearly have cracked this puzzle.

norfolkandgood - you write that John and Sarah were married 1810 and that John was a widower.  I also notice a baptism for a John in 1805 who is the son of a John and Mary.  Might John be John's first wife before he married Sarah?  Is there any record of a marriage between a John and a Mary or a burial of a Mary between 1805 and 1810?

Kind Regards,

Craig

Hi Craig. I did not find a marriage to Mary, however I did find a marriage on 18 Nov 1794 to Elizabeth Cook. Elizabeth was buried on 2 Aug 1808, aged 34. If you think it would be worth buying you can get a CD of March pr transcripts from the  Cambridgeshire FHS. Regards

Hi norfolkandgood,

Thanks for looking.  I suspect Mary and John may have be another, unrelated couple.

I may need to get the March CD of Parish records.  But....if I could just ask one last question if I could please, which might help to confirm I've got the correct family?  Is there a record of a marriage between an Ann Remington/Remmington and a groom with the surname of Weldon/Wheldon or a marriage between a Remington/Remmington and Redhead?

Best Wishes,

Craig

Hi suffolk*sue and norfolkandgood,

Thanks for looking and for your replies.  I have purchased two CD's from CFHS so I hope to study the data and hopefully make a few connections.

Kind Regards,
