I am looking for someone to assist to Decipher a court reference, Scottish writing dated 1667, as I believe it is my ancestors..
-
Put the image on the thread John.Don't put the whole thing at once, bit at a time.Crop it into sections, hit reply to this post, you will see attach photograph or image ,left click will bring up browse, click browse and that should bring your files up,choose the one with your doc in and open and post.As I say better to do a bit at a time to give the deciphering experts a chance.
George.

This is the last part, I had John pirrets from Kilsyth, Hie Gartshore or East Gartshore, and I beleive this has Gartshore mentioned, but I cant decipher it. I would love to know what it say,s

Wow, that's some handwriting. Nonetheless, it seems to be written in pretty much the standard form as part 1 begins with
The testament dative and inventar of the guids geir [and?]
soummes of mony quhilk present to umquhill John Pirret in eister gartshoir
You can read about Scottish handwriting at www.scottishhandwriting.com and they also have a section on Testaments (though concentrating on the 18th Century, rather than the period you are looking at!).
I'll have a closer look to see what names and places I can pick out.

Thanks for looking at the Court reference, I looked on the Scottish handwriting site, but the only bit I can make out is the end Signed by Reid.
I have reference to A John Pirret going back to 1600's (also Late 1500's)they all came from around Kilsyth and Campsie area, Kirkintiloch.

There's an Elizabeth Smallie in the first part, who is described as relict of the deceased, and there's a few other names dotted about too...I'll have another go!
-
Elizabeth Smeallie was married to John Pirret:
John PIRRET (aka Pirat) was born about 1600 in Scotland
John married Christiane FLEMYNG in 1st Jul 1624 in Kilsyth, Stirling, Scotland. Christiane died before 1633.
John next married Elizabeth SMEALIE before 1633. Elizabeth died after 1677.
Children from this marriage were:
William PIRRET (aka Pirat, Pirrate) was born in 1633 and was christened on 14 Apr 1633 in Lenzie, Stirling, Scotland.
David PIRRET was born in 1648 in Easter Gartshore Kirkintilloch Scotland and was christened on 9Mar 1648.
Do these names shed any light, it looks as if it is part of my anscestors, just would love to know what it say's. Thanks for your assistance...

This is a very, very quick go - there were bits I didn't spend much time on, but I think I got all the names:

There doesnt seem to be any mention of Pirrets in this section, it refers to a William Flemming (written as Flyming).

Thanks for all your time, it is strange it mentions William Fleming, I will need to find Christiane Flemings details as this is his first wife. John died in March 58, maybe the 2 females were fighting for what ever he had?????
Well at least I know it is linked to my anscestors, thanks again.
