Post by: sss65 on Sunday 13 February 11 01:42 GMT (UK)
Hi,
Robert McCaw married Catherine McCahghan (sic) in Rasharkin Presbyterian Church, Ballymoney on 14 Aug 1885. I have no information on the children.

Regards

I came across this message reply- I am connected to the Robert McCaw you mentioned and am trying to find out more about his brother Hugh and their parents Hugh and Letitia  nee Adams.
Have you any more info? I know they were in Glasgow by 1901 but cannot find them there before this.

That's great info thankyou.
  :D
All I need to find now is any evidence of when Hugh jnr and his brothers came to glasgow. They were there by 1900 as Hugh married in glasgow that year his brother Robert married in Ireland - Catherine Mccaughern as mentioned in the other topic. but I can't find info as to when they left Ireland.

Any further info you can get about Hugh seniors parents and letitia's would be excellent.
Thank again,
Sue

hi,
I am joseph(joe) mccaw and i live in sydney australia. my great grandparents on my dads side were robert mccaw and catherine mccaughern. roberts parents were hugh mccaw and letitia adams.  Thomas's grandparents hugh and martha were i believe  married in 1907 in rasharkin county antrim  ireland. i have no records of any children at present to this couple as i have been concentrating on the main line back. My grandparents were joseph bonar mccaw( hughs younger brother) and rose kane.
this may or may not help. however since it appears that thomas and i are related i would look forward to the opportunity to communicate with him.

Hi Joe

Have passed you message on to Tommy.  I did a bit of research, and was able to hook up with some on ancestry.com, which was fantastic as they had photos, I think i have saved them, if you want copies.  So your Grandfather and Tommy's were brothers, which makes you second cousins.  What a shame didn't find you earlier, they were out from Scotland in March and we took them to Sydney!!

My email for all things family history related is:

(*)
I can send you what I found out for Tommy if you like.

kind regards

Linda

Appreciate your offer very much re info from Thommy. Unfortunately I have lost the reply you sent (having a lot of trouble navigating this site). They blocked your email address so perhaps you can send it again some other way.

On 11 Feb 1859 Hugh McCaw, father William, married Letitia Adams, father Robert, in  Finvoy Presbyterian Church, Ballymoney.
Hello there,
Since retiring recently, I have just started to look into family history and am so pleased to have at last found a link to my family tree!
My great grandmother was Mary Serah Mc Caw born to Hugh and Letitia  born on 16th April 1868. She married my great grandfather John Curry 27 Dec 1888 of Lismorrity in Trinity church Ballymoney and they had one son my grandfather John Curry born 10 Dec 1893. The family of 3 are in the 1901 census living there but by the 1911 census she had died though as yet i have not found a date of death or where she is buried! Lismorrity is where my grandfather who married Anna Mary Adams 22nd Aug 1919 lived and where my mum was born. she says that, as a result of the mum Mary Serah dying when he was a young boy, her dad was able to knit and sew , turn the heel of a sock, and had to cook and clean. Certainly his school record is VERY patchy as i have found that in PRONI office recently. Any more information on Hugh Letitia and Mary Serah  would be wonderful!

How exciting is this! I cannot believe that through this forum I have found relatives! My mother, now 88 will be so pleased when i go to see her tomorrow, as she has had so little information over the years about her grandmother! If you would post up here any little snippet of info that I could pass on to her i would be grateful! That would keep me happy till we are allowed to PM! I would also be so interested to hear where you live! Reply soon third cousin!

My father was born in Glasgow and is the grandson ( on his mother's side) of Hugh McCaw born 18 oct 1872 who was Mary Serah's  youngest brother. Hugh had twin girls Letitia and Sarah and sarah was my dad's mum . Hugh Mcaw - Mary Serah's youngest brother- went to Canada in 1911 and sadly died a few months after arriving there with his third wife and only son james Mccaw- he left the girls behind and they were brought up in Glasgow by their uncle Robert Mccaw ( mary's oldest brother).

After having had a very late night because i was having difficulty working out all this information i think i have found out that we are NOT related and am so sad!! Sorry folks!!I had been given some information to start me off by other people with an interest in geneology and who had large data bases of north antrim people. And my mum had confirmed that as a child her father had gone to dirraw to see relatives. BUT i have just been up at PRONI a few days ago and had seen the actual entry of John Curry and Mary Mc Caw's marriage and it states that her father was a Samuel Mc Caw of Craignamaddy which is a different townland. So she was probably not Mary Serah as I thought last night  and later i  found a death of a Mary Eliza Curry in 1902 which may tie in!

It may be of help to anyone who is not living in NI to know that the most recent Ordinance survey maps 1:50,000 Discoverer series on the back have a simpe road layout overlaid with all the townlands. I find it so useful even i come from nearby so if anyone is doing research from a distance i know it would be of help. Ballycastle is Sheet 5 and Ballymoney is sheet 8 and you can buy them online. Hope this makes up for my error and confusing folk!

Maybe I can help. My name is Janine McCaw. I live in Vancouver, Canada. My father (deceased) is Hugh McCaw. He emigrated from Scotland. His father, Thomas McCaw married Margaret Kennedy. Thomas went to war as part of the 15'th Highland Infantry and was killed in France in 1916. His name is on the memorial at Somme. Two of my three brothers will have familiar names to you, being named Hugh and Colin Thomas (Tom). So, I'm pretty sure we're talking about the same family. It's nice to meet you. You can find me on facebook.  :)
