Title: James Mclaren Master Mariner of Montrose
Post by: rentaship on Saturday 12 February 11 20:07 GMT (UK)
My Great Grandmother, Isabella Hutcheon Mclaren was born in Montrose and moved to to the Barrington, Northumberland area at a later age. Whilst I have the more recent family history on her I do not know much prior to then. Her birth certificate states that she was born at 77 Castle Street, Montrose on the 12th September 1867. Daughter of James Mclaren, Shipmaster and Isabella Milne or Mclaren his wife.  Other than that i have no further information. Can anyone help?

Peter

Well George was still alive in 1881 - aged 17 and a seaman on a ship docked in Wick

Was this after her marriage or before?

I do not know when my great grandmother, Isabella Hutcheon Mclaren, moved to Barrington. She married a James Foster at some stage and they had three children, Jack - no details, Isablella, and Jemima(my grandmother born 8th February 1895 at 8, Chapel Row, Barrington).

From some hand written notes from my late Aunt(Mary Isabella Barker nee Foster) I can confirm that there would appear to have been a Jack Mclaren, George Mclaren, Jemima Marken Mclaren as well as my great grandmother Isabella Hutcheon Mclaren.

Saddly no dates and one short from your list but in order:

Jack's wife was called Margaret and they had three sons, Jim, Jack, George and two daughters Agnes and Isabella.

George's wife was called Ann and they had no family. He was reportedly a pilot on the Firth of Forth.

Isabella Hutcheon Mclaren - already covered. One son Jack and two daughters Jemima and Isabella Mary.

Jamima Marken Mclaren husband William - no surname and had a duaghter Ann Degersey Montgomery Markem.

Going one step back James Mclaren must have died young as Iabella Milne Mclaren apparently remarried. her second husband was an Alexander Carr. \canadian connection here but....?

The only info that I have about Carr is some old hand written notes which state.

I understand that James Mclaren may have been lost at sea. Story says Bay of Biscay. I actuall have his walking cane which a shaped out of ivory.

Second husband of Isabella Milne Mclaren is Alexadder Carr  ( I believe should be Alexander)

They had one son Alexandra Carr - (Canada) - wife Mamie. They  had a son called Geeorge and dughters Florence and Donna May.
