I have traced the Crawford Family back to Workington Cumberland in the 1881 census, John crawford aged 63 of Uldale Street, Workington and his wife Ann aged 55 in 1881. Therefore best guess at dates of birth are 1818 and 1826 they give there origins as Irish, hence I am stuck, can anyone help, please, particularly with there origins. I know they had at least four children so there marriage which I have to assume is in Ireland had to be prior to 1859.

Hello Mike,
The following site shows the distribution of the name Crawford in Ireland during the period 1848 - 64 at the time of Griffiths Valuation. There is a table - enter Crawford and search ALL.
Do you have Ann's surname ? This may assist in establing the townland and parish where John and Ann were born.

From an earlier post of yours on Cumberland board-
I have traced the Crawford Family back to Workington Cumberland in the 1881 census. My current research from the 1881 census indicates John crawford (aged 63) of Uldale Street, Workington and his wife Ann (aged 55).
Therefore best guess at dates of birth are 1818(John) and 1826(Ann) they give there origins as Irish, hence I am stuck, can anyone help, please, particularly with there origins.
I know they had at least four children, so their marriage (which I have to assume is in Ireland) had to be prior to 1859.
There has to be a lot more children out there, but the four I have located so far are Thomas 1859 Irish origin; Mary1861 and Maggie 1861(both of Irish origin), and James 1864.
In the 1881 census it implies James was born in west cumberland, but I have virtually proved this to be incorrect. Some people have implied it could be West Meath in Ireland. But at present I have hit a brick wall. ???
and the reply-
I found these in 1871 census
john age 47 born Ireland occ labourer
Ann age 40 born Ireland
james (son) age 6 born gateshead durham
living with 2 servants and 15 lodgers
St marys gateshead Durham. This same family lives in Workington in 1881
Civil registration of births started 1864 in Ireland and it looks like these Irish-born Crawfords would have been born before that date. The birth certificate for the son James (c1865 Co.Durham) should list his mother's maiden name which might help locate the marriage in Ireland.
Do you know what religion the family were? civil registration of Catholic marriages started in 1864 but 1845 for non-Cayjolic marriages.
