I know there were some Macro's in Soham in the early 1500's and I would like to see where they had spread out.
Could somebody please lookup in the Hearth Tax records for the spelling variations:
Macroe, Macrow, Macrowe, Mackerowe, Makrowe, Makerow, Makro.
Thanks!

I'm afraid there are no entries for MACRO (or for any of the surname variants you listed) in the BRS publication of the Michaelmas 1664 returns of the Cambridgeshire Hearth Tax.

Ruth,
Thank you.
There were some Macroe's in Snailwell in 1667:
"Index to transcripts of Snailwell Parish Regsiters (1570-1992)
Baptisms
1667 Jul 21 Macroe (BT Macro] Willm son of Robt & Anne"
So they must have moved there after 1664. Or maybe Snailwell wasn't in Cambridgeshire at that time?

Snailwell is included, but no Robert Macro. The only Roberts there are OLLARD senior and junior and PEPPER. It's possible that Robert wasn't the head of household and so wouldn't have been listed - perhaps they were living with in-laws. You could check the original returns for the Lady Day 1671 Hearth Tax at The National Archives (E 179/244/22) to see if they are recorded there.
