My Gt. Grandmother,Sarah Ann Milward and family took shelter at the "Bath Hotel" after their home,Norton Lodge,Oystermouth was gutted by fire in May 1887.
Does anyone have any information on that Hotel, which presumably doesn't exist anymore ?
Any information is gratefully received.
Thank you !

Would that be the Bath Hotel, 296-298 Oystermouth Road, Swansea?
Still there as far as I can tell.
-
KGarrad,I think it must be.as Norton Lodge is in Norton Avenue and Norton Road and Oystermouth Road is nearby.
I am amazed the Bath Hotel is still in existence.
I will try to find the hotel on the internet, now that I know it is still there.
I am hoping they may have records of guests for that period and I want to try to get a photo of the establishment too.
I really appreciate this lead.
Thank you so much !

I simply Googled!
Couldn't find any pictures, though.
And, pure guess-work on my part, that it is probably now a pub?
-
Have a look on Google Earth and if they have "street view" you may be able to see what it looks like now.
-
Google in China is compromised so I don't use it.Concessions were made so they could have a presence here and it all turned pear shape a little while ago.
Thanks for your time and kindness,

The Bath Hotel on Oystermouth Road changed into the Abertawe Ale House maybe 20 years ago. I think that it is about 2 miles from Norton. The Mumbles area is closer to Oystermouth and I wonder if there was a Bath Hotel there, too?
The Abertawe Ale House is now a pub; I think you can stay there though its a pub bed and breakfast etc. if you can rather than full blown hotel. Not sure if it has a reception, other than the bar.
I had lunch there a couple of years back and it was nice if quiet on the day.

Hello :)
You can find several references to Thomas Milward on the Cambrian index.
http://www.swansea.gov.uk/index.cfm?articleid=6197
One of the references from 27th Sept 1889 is regarding the Bath Hotel, Norton and the licence transfer application - evidence of Mr Nicholl Morgan & Mr Thomas Milward!
On Swansea Archives site there is a mention of the Bath Hotel, Oystermouth Rd as one of the properties owned by Allied breweries, but this may be a different place.
D/D Z 549/3> Correspondence relating to the purchase of Bath Hotel, Oystermouth Road, Swansea. 1898
Kind Regards
Morgan

Thank you Morgan, these leads will keep me out of trouble for some time I expect.
I modified some threads after my last mess-up and now you have kindly merged some threads for me.I appreciate that !
I think I am getting a hands on feel for how to get everything right.I hope so anyway.

Hi Phipps,
I couldn't help noticing your query about the Bath Hotel.
My parents actually live in part of this hotel, for many years now it's been split into private houses. They are three storey, part of a Georgian terrace on the seafront at Norton, in Oystermouth, Swansea. My parents' house was apparently the servants' quarters of the Bath Hotel, and is next to the main part of the hotel, which was on the corner of Mumbles Road and Norton Road. The rooms are large, with high ceilings. The views across Swansea Bay are stunning!
Hope this helps

Hi lizholt, This information is very useful to me,thank you. This is where my Gt Grandmother and her children, including my 6 year old Grandfather retreated to after their home," Norton Lodge" was gutted by fire in 1887.
Is there a photo of Bath Hotel as it exists today,or as it existed in the 1870s that you know of ?
I appreciate your time and kindness very much !
Kind regards,
