I have a gr gr gr grandfather George Hart apparently born in Agley ??? Worcestershire in 1817 but can't find his accendants....
He also married a Maria that I don't know her maiden name..
Can anyone help please ;D
-
before you can find his chr, and hence his parents, you will need to confirm your info.
Where did this Agley place come from? Is it consistant on all censuses?
Did he marry after 1837? If so, his marriage cert will give his fathers name and occupation, also Maria's, so will be a help in finding the right family in PArish registers.
The birth cert of yr gr gr grandparent (if after 1837) will give Marias maiden name and thus help lead you to the right marriage.

Could it be Hagley?
-
the 1861 census states Worcestershire Agley, definitely starts with an A...other censuss just state Worcestershire
I think they married around 1837, most likely just before unfortunately!

Could it be Hagley?
I agree definitely Hagley...........

I can see the 1861 (RG9 3710 74 20)
But I cant see them in 1851! Have you got the ref?
And in 1841, are theythe family where the Dad is called Charles, rather than George? HO107 981 6, in Tamworth, Fazeley. Charles a bricklayer, Maria, William 7 and a baby.

1871
Is this them RG10 3089 120 11
Here they are in Birmingham and all give pob as Birminghma Warwickshire.
Not very consistant with places of birth are they! And they dont half move around!

Hi
there is a Hagley, a small village between Kidderminster and Birmingham. Bad timing I know, but I was in Worcester Histoty Centre on Saturday looking for a birth in the parish records!

I have lived in Worcestershire all my life and I definately do not know of an Agley. I definately think this should be Hagley - possible the person taking the census misheard?
-
I seem to remember Hagley as being somewhere near Stourbridge, Worcestershire, of that is any help.

Hi There
I was born in Worcestershire & have researched names in that county for the last 17 years & can say with certainty that Agley is an error on the cencus as it never existed it should be Hagley - remember that the census's are only coppies of the original so the mistake may have occured then eg someone may have been calling out the names to be coppied & not sounded their H's

Thanks to all for the Hagley confirmation! Anyone know if the parish records for this area are online, as I'm miles from there?

Hi David
Ive made a note to have a look at the Hagley parish registers during one of my visits to the History Centre at Worcester in APR - I shall be staying about 10 miles away from Worcester (the city of my birth) with relatives for a few weeks so wish me luck. If I should be lucky enough to find the Bap of George I will look for his siblings & then the Mar of his parents - I hope that I can do you justice with this look up. Dont expect to hear any results until about 25th APR & that will be pushing it a bit

Phil,
That would be fantastic if you get a chance to look for my ancestors!
Maria was also born around 1817 but in Smethwick, Staffordshire so don't be surprised if you don't find the marriage, as their son Thomas was born in Wednesbury, Staffordshire so they obviousy headed to her roots after the marriage...
Thanks again and good luck!

David there's a Marriage for George Hart and Maria Turner 5.2.1837 St Mary's Handsworth, which would fit in with Maria/Mary being born in Smethwick.
