Title: Silver War Badge - Number but no name
Post by: ianandshelley on Monday 07 February 11 14:23 GMT (UK)
I have a SWB which is a family item but I don't know who it was awarded to.  It has a number (213563) stamped on the reverse but no name.

Could someone help me to identify the owner from the number

Thanks

Hi, i know that some one who comes on here has access to the swb, but not sure if they could find the name of the person by it number only? I could be wrong?
If you have access to ancestry and could look at all the medal card index relating to your family, you maybe lucky and spot it on the MDI?

Look at the bottom of this page on this link and it gives a little more detail on how to trace the owner http://www.1914-1918.net/grandad/swb.htm

Title: Re: Silver War Badge - Harry Neville Williams?

Further to my recent post I have now received information from family that this Silver War Badge may have been awarded to Harry Neville Williams.

Could anyone please advise how I could prove the link between Harry and the Badge numbered 213563.

Thanks

Hi
If you find the mans Medal Index Card it should have something like "list" or SWB annotated on it. with a page or list index.
You need to marry that up with the book at Kew which it relates this will give recipients details including SWB number.

You will need a researcher or visit.I have details of a guy that i used to research a SWB lookup if you want his details PM me.

Is it the RFC lad from Liversedge that was discharged to pension

I live 5 min from Liversedge!
He never served overseas enlisted into Reserve 1915 called up 1917 discharged sick in 1918

List RFC 109

Result...The lads on GWF have kindly provided the SWB Roll.
You will see the number tallies with the one you have so thats confirmation.
With his record on Ancestry,His Medal Index Card and SWB Roll I would call that an excellent result. Will check my Spen Valley notes see if theres any listings of him.
