This is my first post to the forum.... :D
I am looking for the marriage record and birth of Thomas Downing and his children....from census records we believe he was born at Keele....he left the military in 1817 at the age of 31....so we are looking at about 1786 for his birth.....we also know that he had the following children....from the 1841 census....
George ~ 1826
John ~1831
Emma ~ 1831
Thomas ~ 1833 our line.....
James ~ 1835
We found a Thomas in the Audley birth records as this was the village listed on the 1851 census....but the mother's name was Mary not Susanna....and we also found that Emma was listed as Thomas's twin....not John's....but we have hit a wall trying to find the other children and the marriage of Thomas and Susanna....
Any help would be great.... 8)

How do you know Thomas's mother was Susanna? On the LDS pilot site there are christening records of DOWNING children in Keele and Audley with parents Thomas and Mary ...they include Emma and Thomas DOWNING who were both christened on the same day, 17 March 1833 at St James in Audley. Although it was common for more than 1 child to be baptised at the same time, it can also mean twins which you have mentioned.

I don't think that Susanna is their mother....I am having trouble finding a marriage for Thomas and Mary and Thomas and Susanna....I think that Mary has died and Thomas remarried....but am no luck finding anything....

Sorry....was half awake when I posted this morning..... ::)
According to the 1841, 1851, and 1861 Census records for Knutton Susanna is Thomas's wife....this is where I get confused as I have searched the Audley records and can not find where Thomas married either a Mary or a Susanna. Thomas's Thomas is a direct line but we are trying to verify who his mother was....because the only bapitsm record we can find is Thomas and Emma with parents being Thomas and Mary....
I think Mary was Thomas's first wife and Susanna is his second wife....if I could find the marriage record of Thomas and Susanna then I would be able to determine possibly who his mother is....
Hope this makes more sense...
