Title: Update - help with ID numbers on Photo
Post by: ogohogoh on Sunday 06 February 11 23:27 GMT (UK)
This is a small passport-size ID photograph of my Grandfather William Weir.  The back of the photo is plain.  He lived and worked in Brixton as a cabbie for a great many years, and I imagine this photo was taken some time during the 1940s.  It was suggested that the numbers referred to his cab or badge number.

I have now heard from the London Taxi people who say that no badge numbers were issued with a letter, and the number is far too hight to be an early cab driver badge number.  Most if not all of the early taxi records were destroyed during The Blitz so tracing anything prior to 1948 is very difficult.  All PCO (Public carriage Office) photos were without drivers wearing any sort of headgear.

So...any other ideas?
