This photo was found amongst my Dads paperwork (Cpl William Stone) when he died and Im wondering if anyone knows where it was taken. He served with the Royal signals from abt 1956 until 1978. I know he was posted to Cyprus and also spent time in Egypt.
The photo has a distinctive picture in the background and maybe someones recognises it. He rarely talked about his early days in the Army and I would love to know more.

Unfortunatley Im not sure my Mum tells me she thinks he was there in 1955.

Is that a turban on the man second on the left in the painting? It is quite distinctive, but looks quite weatherbeaten even then. As they have posed in front of it, it does make you wonder if it was some kind of 'landmark'. Very curious ... 20th Century Fox? :-\

The British/French invasion of the Suez canal zone took place in 1956, I think but really don't know that this photo was taken on one of the British sovereign bases in Cyprus, before or after independence is irrelevant as the UK retained the bases.
