Hi
Im looking to trace Ann Jubb who died 26th June 1777
(She was married and a parent)
The info is taken from the reverse of a brooch but I would like to find out who she married & when, whereabouts she lived, when she was born etc if possible.
I have already searched on the IGI, Ancestry member trees etc
The national trust surname database states that the name Jubb is Yorkshire in origin so I have entered it on this section of the forum

have you checked for a will? That would help with location if one exists.
-
Yes there's nothing there I'm afraid!
-
Jackski, when you say she was married and a parent - could you give us slightly more information please ? For example, do you know the names of her children and where they were born ?
Pels.

Unfortunately I can't! The inscription on the brooch says the name, and the date that she died, and that she was a loving parent. No other information. No dates. No names. No age. No location. It's rather infuriating having so little to work on. The national trust surname locator website indicates that Jubb was a Sheffield/ South Yorkshire name primarily, with others located in the rest of Yorkshire.
I'm assuming that a marriage occurred and hoped that somebody researching the name JUBB might have further info, as to be quite honest, I'm not sure how else I might find her.

I have looked at the most recent edition of NBI and there is no detail for Ann Jubb.

Hello.
I have checked the Yorkshire Surname Interests List. There are two listings for the Surname Jubb, that may be of interest to you.
Jubb c 1709-1728 Leeds. Jubb c 1600-1700 Barnsley. They may be able to help you.
Regards.
Brian.

There's an Arthur Jubb in my family - he was born 1869 in Balby (nr Doncaster) and married Elizabeth Strafford (b 1871). He was a Primitive Methodist minister. He and Elizabeth would have met because his family business provided metal products to the printing trade - Elizabeth's father was a printer. They had at least 3 children, Arthur Reginald b 1902 Grimsby, Elisie Mary b 1904 Hull and Winston Percy b 1911 Grimsby. In 1917 they were living in Thornton Heath, Surrey. Sorry there'a a hundred year gap between your Jubb and mine, but you may be able to fill in the gaps if they're connected.

To clarify Brian's post, the Yorkshire surnames list is here:
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/YKSlist/yks.htm
The following marriages in the South Yorkshire area between 1700 and 1777 are on the new familysearch site:
John Jubb to Ann Elam at Normanton on 10 Nov 1713
Wm Jubb to Ann Houldsworth at Darfield on 29 Oct 1722
William Jubb to Ann Sheppard at Braithwell in 1730 (no date given)
Thos. Jubb to Ann Funk at Leeds on 28 Dec 1752
James Jubb to Ann Leedam at Leeds on 16 Sep 1766
George to Ann Dearden at Sheffield on 10 Nov 1771
However, I rather suspect you are looking for a needle in a haystack as you do not know Ann's maiden name, the names of any of her children or her age when she died. There is no reference point.

Jacksi,
There were several JUB and JUBB families in Penistone area at the time you are researching, but I only have to hand burials from 1800. 13 JUB(B)s burued in 12 yuears.

Hi
Find my past has these two entries
one with no first name and one Amy
JUBB 1777 Rotherham Yorkshire (West Riding) ?????
JUBB Amy 1777 Owston Lincolnshire
It has a small cost to find actual date of death
-
Hi Dobby,
I'd already checked those to be on the safe side. The Rotherham burial was for a widow, dated 22nd March 1777 - therefore too early to be Ann. Amy was buried on the 2nd February 1777 - again too early.

Has anyone checked with sheffield indexers?
http://www.sheffieldindexers.com
They do appear to have some Rotherham records available.
Seems to be a popular name 'Jubb' around sheffield.

I have a George Jubb, born around 1838, who married Jane Steel. They were in the Attercliffe area of Sheffield. I believe George's father was also a George.

Winston Percy was my husbands father!

Are you still searching for Ann Jubb? I have come across this name with a date of death of the 26th June 1777 in a tree on ancestry though I've not seen any proof of that being the date of death. I can send details if you want to check it out.
