I have an ancestor, William MOORE, who emigrated to Halifax some time before 1864 when he married Julie Ann KEATING. I have found him in various Directories as being a Liquor Dealer living at 104,124,116, 118 Albermarle, Halifax. Does anyone have any knowledge of this district?

Hi Ellen,
Go to Google Maps and type in "Halifax Albemarle Street" (not Albermarle). You will see that it is up near the Citadel. Halifax goes uphill from the water to the Citadel. By the way, the Citadel is definitely worth a visit!
If your ancestor was a liquor dealer, I suspect the soldiers would have been good customers!

The construction of the Halifax Metro Centre split Albemarle St into two sections. The street was renamed Market St. and only recently did one part revert to its original name.

Thanks for response. I would love to visit but as I am in England, don't think I will ever be able to!
