Thank you for the information. Iwas hoping someone from Arthur Clarke`s family may have any information re his mother Eliza clarke.

Hi darcy2 :)
You might be waiting a long time if you only want to speak to a descendant of the couple...in the meantime can we help you at all? What did you want to find out about Arthur Clarke's mother?
Cheers

I am unable to find a death certificate for Eliza Clarke. I searched all B.D.M`S inN.S.W & Queensland & Victoria. Her name is on the Family grave at Rookwood Cemetery but checking burial records at C ofE. Cemetery there is no record of her burial there. I have applied for numerous death certificates but none match .The date of death on the headstone is 5th Feb.1894
-
Hi Darcy,
Do you have a transcript of the 1894 death cert for Eliza CLARK, registered at Granville NSW ... many of my forebears who lived in and around Granville ended up at Rookwood Cemetery...
The reference number seems to be 5922
I will keep looking !
Do you know your Eliza's parents names please
Cheers, JM

that was the first certificate I applied for. I worked at Rookwood cemetery at one time & am familiar with the area. Eliza`s parents were Thomas & Ann Wade of Liverpool.Ihave all the Wade family history with the exception of Eliza`s death

Hi there,
I'm confused ....
From the NSW BDM online index I can see that there's a death in 1940 and registered at Bankstown for an Arthur Sydney CLARKE, and that his parents are listed on that index as Edward and Eliza.
From another online index I can see that there's a double plot at Rookwood, in the Old C of E section with four graves....
Section BBB, row 20, plots 881 and 882
interred 11 May 1891 Edward Clarke aged 64
interred 18 Sept 1891 Sarah McCartney aged 28
interred 5 February 1894 Eliza Clarke aged 71 (wife of the above, ie Edward)
interred 29 January 1914 William McCartney aged 65 (husband of the above, ie Sarah)
I can't see that this particular double plot at Rookwood is associated with Arthur Sydney Clarke, sorry, perhaps your records are more detailed than the online indexes .... :)
Cheers, JM

;D Thanks Sue,
So there's TWO possible lasses named Sarah Clarke .... one the wife of Arthur Sydney Clarke and the other the sister of Arthur Sydney Clarke. That would explain the likely connection between the Rookwood grave and Arthur Sydney Clarke , however, the index I am looking at lists Sarah McCartney's age as 28 at that interment in 1891 ie born circa 1863 which does NOT match up with the 1855 baptism. However, a transcript of that 1877 marriage of Sarah to William McCartney would clear up her birth details, and it should list her parents names. I use "should" rather than "would" .... the NSW BDM Reg Gen's records are not complete, particularly for the decades before WWI .... and particularly for marriages.....
http://www.bdm.nsw.gov.au/familyHistory/historyofRegistrysRec.htm includes the following snippet
" The task of reconciling the Church Records for marriages between 1856 and 1895 was never finalised. Some of the Registry's marriage records from these years still have missing information. " (When I come across m.c. with 'missing' info I contact the local parish and/or local family history group to try to find the local records, these frequently do contain more details... )
Darcy, I will presume you are looking for descendants of Arthur Sydney and his wife Sarah (rather than his sister Sarah) any descendants of arthur & sarah clarke

Just to help RChatters following this thread :
Not sure, but from 1870 NSW Electoral Roll for Central Cumberland (ie covering the police districts of Parramatta and of Liverpool)
Edward Clarke, leaseholder near George's Hall
There's several chaps surnamed CHILDS and they are all in the Holsworthy area ... Moorebank, Mills Creek, etc
1878 NSW ER, Central Cumberland
Edward Clarke, leasholder near George's Hall
and again several surnamed CHILDS in the Holsworthy area
1903 NSW ER Parramatta Electorate, Liverpool polling place
CHILDS, Sarah Ellen, domestic duties, living "near Liverpool"
However, no Arthur Sydney CLARKE at that polling place. My copies of those early rolls are NOT keyword searchable, sorry....
I've also had a look for possible inquests for Eliza Clarke or Sarah McCartney in 1891 .... cannot find any noted in my records ....
Cheers, JM

I should have thought of this before ::)
Searching NSW bdm with wildcard at the end of CLARK (no E) brings up several more possible births to parents named EDWARD & ELIZA CLARKE.

https://www.familysearch.org/ and their "extracted" baptism records for NSW Australia
Sarah Ann Clarke dau of Edward Clarke and Eliza Wade was baptised 25 Nov 1855 at St Lukes, Liverpool ... from memory I think that's C of E ....

Observation
If the Eliza in the grave at Rookwood (aged 71 in 1894) is the mother of HERBERT ALBERT CLARKE, she was a very mature age mother.

Its one of those things that are bothering me about Eliza Clarke !

NSW State Records Office
Deceased Estates INDEX has Edward CLARKE, date of death 14 May 1891, Duty paid 9 July 1891 ;D .... his locality ;D LIVERPOOL
http://srwww.records.nsw.gov.au/indexsearch/keyname.aspx
Slight variation in his date of death (headstone transcription says 11 May 1891, ie weathering altered the number 4) however, this particular record can be ordered online and it may well have information regarding family history .... eg names of the beneficiaries to that estate, where he was living, what the estate comprised of, it could even contain copies of bdm certificates (I was lucky with several of my NSW forebears, I have photocopies of their original certificates that were in their probate packets, fingers crossed that Darcy could be as fortunate !)
Cheers, JM

I wonder also about the MI date for SARAH MCCARTNEY.
Her death on the indexes appears as 1894 rather than 1891
WILLIAM MCCARTNEY I am not sure. Maybe....
REG 2130 In 1914 MCCARTHEY WILLIAM
Father JAMES
Mother ELIZA
At GRANVILLE
