Hi there
Have hit a brick wall with the following; hoping for any assistance that's out there!
John Black b. Cavan, Ireland 1 Jan 1874 arrived 1880, married Margaret (Maggie) Gushler/Giescher/Gieschler/Geischler (!) on 9 Jul 1897 in Oxford, Ontario.
She was born 2 Nov 1867 in East Zorra Township, to Henry Gieschler and Anna Maria Gerhardt.
Children:
Isabella Barbara Black b. 27 Dec 1897 in London, Ontario
Clarence B Black b. 1 Jan 1900 in Middx. Ont.
Frederick John Black b. 23 Mar 1903 in Middx. Ont.
Last record of them all together is via the Automated Genealogy site - 1911 Census has them living in Strathroy, Ont.
Clarence enlisted in the CEF as a driver - despite being 15! - in 135 Batt.
Trail has run cold! Can't get anywhere! Any ideas? Cheers....Matt

Not sure if this sort of thing is what you are after exactly but it's a start and I will scout around to see what else I can find :)
1901 Canadian Census
John Black 27 Gardener b. 1 Jan 1874, Ireland (wow, your lucky to get all the birth dates on the census)
Margaret Black 33 b 2 Nov 87, (interesting, she put Ontario) but her race is German
Isabella Black 3 b 27 Dec 1897, Ontario
Clarence Black 11 months b. 1 May 1900, Ontario
still living in Strathroy

* Lots of Kunigunda Geisler in the U.S. so that might be proper spelling? Apparently named derived from: Kunigunda was a German saint, the wife of Heinrich, the last king of the royal house of Saxony, also a saint.

Unbelievable stuff...will dig through it, really appreciate it!
Reason is that John Black is my wife's great-great uncle, so trying to see what came of his line of the family.
He and his brother, James Berry Black, moved to Canada in 1880 following the death of their mother; thereafter nothing was heard of them. Their nephew - my wife's grandfather - searched in vain for them throughout his life but sadly died before I managed to turn a few things up via this chat room and Ancestry etc. The James Berry line has yielded living descendents, with whom I'm now in contact, but the John line runs cold in 1911.
Thanks
Matt

In 1901 & 1911 James says he came in 1888, John says 1890 and 1885?

Haven't found 2 Blacks immigrating together, wonder if they came at different times...
Incidently we might be looking for Clarence as Clarence Berry Black...as James named a lad "James John Berry Black" & called him Berry, honouring his mom's maiden name...
-
Good point - hadn't thought that that would be the case! Berry travelled through both sides of the family, and lives on to this day in the middle name of my wife's uncle.
John Black on the Census 1901 has an immigration date of 1880 but it's been transcribed as 1890 - was lucky enough to get a look at it!
James Berry Black appears on the US Census, weirdly, in 1880, staying with an uncle John in Stark, Il. It asks more questions than it answers, to be honest - such as, why only one brother in Il in 1880, and the other elsewhere? - but both appear to be over that side of the Atlantic in 1880, which makes me think I've possibly got the right guys.
Please keep it coming! This is all great stuff!

Hallo from Germany,
I am very interested in my family history and maybe even answer some questions.

Hallo! Anything I can help with, I will help.
I've made quite a few assumptions but I'm pretty convinced that the Gieschlers married into the Black family. My wife is a Black, and they are from Ireland; I've got information on them arriving in Canada ok, but the problem is that John Black is a pretty common name!
