Title: skerries holiday park?
Post by: rachelralph on Wednesday 02 February 11 14:55 GMT (UK)
still trying to find my richard denigan and family.
my nan today told me that the denigan family owned a holiday park called skerries. i know the family were from longford so i am posting here in the hope someone knows. all i find when i google this is skerries northern ireland. it is a very strong possiblity that my nan has got confused and the denigans used to holiday in skerries, but i have to ask just to be sure. i am hoping that this is a holday park in the longford area or indeed anywhere in ireland, and that if it is i can then trace the family that way.

There's a town named Skerries on the coast of North Co. Dublin

see : Skerries, Co. Dublin (http://www.google.ie/maps?f=q&source=s_q&hl=en&geocode=&q=skerries&aq=&sll=53.344104,-6.267494&sspn=0.175452,0.451813&g=dublin&ie=UTF8&hq=&hnear=Skerries,+County+Fingal&ll=53.575996,-6.093636&spn=0.087248,0.225906&z=12)

It was a holiday destination for Dublin people.

thanks for that, i have a funny feeling that this is where the denigan family holidayed rather than what my nan thinks and they owned a holiday place called skeries :)

since posting this i have found that my nan got confused and her step dad, not her mum's side of the family came from skerries or near there.

she still claims that they owned a holiday park there though, so im wondering if anyone knows of a holiday park in skerrie that was owned or ran by the CARR family in the 1940's and 1950's?

Red Island was a holiday camp in Skerries which operated into late 70's early 80's.

Not sure but I believe Fergal Quinn's (ex Superquinn ) Dad set it up.
