Thank you i should have thought of free B M D. Any ideas on how i should progress on finding confirmation of their births.
Thanks for all your help

Hi emlyn,
You need the Marriage Cert to confirm both their Fathers names and occp's.
The IGI has at least 33 Daniels Christened in the right time frame.
It also looks like he was Married previously also to a Hannah.
You may already know this but Mary EVANS is a Servant in his Household in 1851 Census . Daniel is a Widower by then with his youngest Child aged 10mths named James ;
HO107/2482/223/9
1841 Census we have;
Daniel THOMAS, 25, Farmer
Hanah, 25
Mary, 6
Benjamin, 4
Sarah, 2
All born in County
HO107/1383/22/Penboyr
Death Reg;
Hannah THOMAS, June 1850, Newt Emlyn, 26 534

been working along the same lines, Trish. I think Daniel's birth is earlier than 1819. That's the age that shows in the 1871 census, but 1851 has him as 38 and 67 in 1881. Another problem is that there are no baptisms showing for his children in Penboyr which could mean that they were non-conformists.

Thanks Osprey.
Great minds think alike :)
-
Yes i believe that Daniel Thomas was non conformist.
Thanks for your help
-
ahh, that can be a problem.
No chapel listed on the Genuki page that is old enough for Daniel's birth. Not all registers were surrendered at the start of civil registration. The ones that were are transcribed here
http://www.bmdregisters.co.uk/index.php
No sign of Daniel's children. Without a father's name, difficult to know if any of the Daniels could be yours. They may have attended a chapel in a neighbouring parish.
Not all non-conformists practice infant baptism, Baptists don't, but there are sometimes naming lists that babies appear on, but not always.
Anyway, the marriage cert is the place to start. That should give you names of their fathers and the denomination of the place of worship may be a clue.

right, I've found some wills at the NLW
http://cat.llgc.org.uk/cgi-bin/gw/chameleon?skin=profeb&lng=en
search for Penclawdd in the diocese of St David's. One of Daniel's brothers, Benjamin died in 1838. Daniel was the youngest according to his father's (James) will. There's mention of leaving money to Drefach (?) meeting house.
Off to read the wills!
;D

Father James died 1/6/1833. His will mentions 2 meeting houses that he leaves money to, Ffynnonhenri - a Baptist Church
http://llanpumsaint.org.uk/village/ffynnonhenri-chapel
& Drefach possibly in Llangeler
http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/wal/CMN/Llangeler/index.html
Family mentioned
wife Mary
son Thomas
dau Mary
dau Hannah
dau Rachel
son Benjamin
son David
youngest son Daniel
grandson William, son of son John.
Brother Benjamin's will from 1836 mentions
Mary Ann, eldest dau of brother Thomas, possibly of Chepstow
Benjamin son of Thomas
William, son of late brother John
sister Hannah of Tynewydd, Llangeler
sister Rachel -(can't make out house name)
sister Mary - Crygeynfach (?)
brother Daniel
Brother in law John Jones, husband of Hannah
Mother Mary's will dated 2/7/1835, probate granted to Daniel 15/8/1835 mentions
son Thomas
dau Rachel Phillips
son Benjamin
grand dau Rachel James, dau of dau Mary James
There are several other wills for surname Thomas in Pen-boyr. I didn't spot any others with Penclawdd or Penyclawdd in the title, but it may appear in the text. Farm name appears as Penyclawdd in Mary's will and when searching Penboyr doesn't produce results, but Pen-boyr does.
I'd meant to check earlier as I though someone farming that amount of land might have featured in a will or two.
By the way, I think his first marriage to Hannah davies wsa 1835.

Hi
Ii is likely they were Baptists as a son John was and lived in Pantybwlch Chapel House in 1881.
Thanks again for all your efforts.
