Title: missing great granny
Post by: souza on Monday 31 January 11 21:19 GMT (UK)
Hi
I need to find the date of my G Grandmothers death. Her name was Effield Hart Helman (maiden name Atwater). She was in the Dartford/ Gravesend area. She was born in 1886.
Any help appreciated.

Hi,

Did Effield marry twice?   There is a marriage for an Effield Helman in 1931 to Arnold Taylor.    :-\

I think that marriage looks very likely Nanny Jan.

There is a possible death for her first husband Henry registered Gravesend June Quarter 1931 Volume 2a page 841 aged 53 which matches his age.

Mo
Edit - I have just realised that the marriage was before the above Henry died  - sorry

All I can find is the death of an Effield H Steer in Maidstone Kent in 1861.Her estimated age at death is given as 73.

Hi Nanny Jan
A 2nd marriage would certainly account for me not finding a death of Effield Helman. I only know my G Grandfather Henry had died before his daughter (my gran Doris ) was married in 1933. But how to explain the 1931 date?

Hi,

I wonder if they had divorced?

With an unusual name she should be easy to find.   :-\

Well it looks like they married as Harry and Ethel

Marriages Jun 1901
Attwater    Ethel        Medway    2a   1224
Helman    Harry         Medway    2a   1224

A copy of the marriage cert is available to view at

She appears to have signed her name as Ethel so you may have to consider looking for her under that forename

I'm grateful to ec,no wonder I couldn't find the Attwater/Helman marriage!

However I think the following marriages are significant;Ethel Helman to an Arnold Packham at Maidstone in 1935 and that of an Ethel Pacham to a James A STEER at Maidstone in 1956.I gave the death of an Effield H Steer in an earlier reply.
