Can anybody help us we are trying to trace our ancestery and can not find anymore information on Nathan Rees.
He was born in either 1855 or 1854
In the 1881 census his name was Nathan Rees and was living in London, Middlesex, England. But then in the 1901 census his name was changed to Nathan Reece, it also states he was born in either Russia or Poland and was living in Spitalfields, Whitechapel, Christchurch, London.
He was married to Annie Reece also from Russia or Poland and had at least 9 children.
If anyone has any information on this family tree it would be greatly appreciated. Thankyou.

Middlesex board might be better proposition.
But check freebmd.org.uk first then look at other census returns.

The 1881-1901 census returns are consistant with Nathan's age, occupation and place of birth. I also see that there are a lot of Polish tailors living in the same area on all of these census returns.
You need to start by getting one of the children's birth certificates to find Annie/Hannah's maiden surname.
REES and REECE sound the same when spoken so it is normal to see them both used, however you may find that this is not Nathan's birth surname. It really depends on whether he was of Polish descent or just born in Poland.

The surname could be REISS - a common Jewish name.

Hi Elizabeth,
Justmehereok is new to RootsChat and posted a request on the London and Middlesex board prior to posting this on the Australia Board so I presume there is an Australian connection. Waiting for further information from poster.
Cheers Kris :)

Hi everyone. We are rather new at this. My daugher and I are doing this together. Thanks for the info. We hope to get the hang of this sometime soon. We live in Canberra Australia. I have a birth cert for my grandfather which has his father as Nathin Rees and mother Anna Rees formerly Hirshcovitch in as so far as I can decipher the names on the certificate but on his marriage certificate, death certificate and the 1901 census it appears as Reece.
Is it possible to look at the other census without spending a bit on money? I checked out marriages on the Free BDM just now but with no luck so far but will try births for Nathan/Nathin Reece/Rees/Reiss around 1861.
I believe my grandfather left England sometime between 1901 and 1914 and arrived in Sydney Australia, perhaps with some of his siblings. Any easy way of doing this without going down to look at the maritime records in Sydney?

Try looking in this Index first.

Hi Justmehereok
Florence Auchterlonie married Edward Reece, who I believe are your grandparents?
Florence's father Andrew Farmer Auchterlonie is my Great-Uncle. I have a lot of information about the Auchterlonie side of the family if you are interested.
Do you want to send me a private message or reply to this post?
Looking forward to hearing from you.
