Title: Clarkes from Middlesbrough/North Ormesby
Post by: MichelleE on Monday 31 January 11 00:06 GMT (UK)
I am writing from Sweden in search of family in the Middlesbrough area.

My ancestor Patrick Clarke was a blast furnace labourer (pig iron), in Port Clarance, Cowpen Bewley, Durham.
In 1911, he was a slag worker in Middlesbrough.
His address in 1911 was 22, Thomas street, Middlesbrough. (Parish of St Hilda's).

Can anyone possibly help with ideas how to trace Patrick's descendants? I know that his daughter Rose visited Ireland in the mid 1970's, but I don't know where any of the family live now.

Patrick was born in Ireland in 1873. His wife's name was Ellen and they had six children (Micheal and Mathilda were born in Middlesbrough):

Margaret b 1899
Patrick b 1900
Rose b 1902
Peter b 1903
Micheal b 1907
Mathilda b 1910

In 1901 they lived at 8 Marton street, Port Clarence, Cowpen Bewley, Durham, England.

All the details I have are below. If you could be of any assistance at all I would be really grateful.

Kind regards,
Michelle Ericson

Hi Michelle.

If you know their address in 1911 I'm assuming you have the 1911 census details.  To find descendants after that date maybe you could check the electoral registers to see if the family was still in the area.  Registers are held at Teesside Archives, so perhaps you could contact them: Teesside Archives, Exchange House, 6 Marton Road, Middlesbrough, TS1 1DB  Tel: 01642 248321  email: teessidearchives [at] middlesbrough.gov.uk
Have you checked Tees Valley Indexes for possible marriages/births/deaths? www.middlesbrough-indexes.co.uk
or you could ask the local newspaper to print a query about possible relatives for you
www.gazettelive.co.uk

Kind regards

I have just had a quick look on the Tees Valley Indexes, and I found Matilda's birth in 1910, there is a possible marriage for her in 1936 to John Vickers, and if you look on the freebmd website for any Vickers children born after 1936 with mother's maiden name Clarke, there are 3 born in Middlebrough district.

You could perhaps do the same for the others

Hi, my name is Diana and i am a descendant of the Clarke family.

It is quite a strange story. My dad Colin Peter Clarke / Hudson was the son of Peter Clarke who died in 1953 when my dad was 13yrs old. I have only recently found this out. My grandma Edith had an affair with Peter Clarke in 1939/1940.

Today i visited the grave of Michael, Ellen & Peter Clarke in Thornaby.

I am on Genes Reunited and my family tree is there. I have done a lot of work in the past 3 months researching the Clarke family. One thing Ellens husband was Michael according to the census. I am trying to find some family relatives as i would like to see some photo's. I am thinking of putting an advert in the local paper.
Please go onto Genes Reunited and i will give you access to my tree. I hope we can find out more x
