Thank you for taking my request. I am trying to find the grave of George Nash who I think is buried in the churchyard at Hanbury; I think it is St. Mary's church. He died around 1913-15 and may have a grave near his daughter, Elizabeth Bradley and her husband, George Bradley. I live in Kansas City, Missour, USA so I very much appreciate your help and any advice about finding his grave.
Kind regards,
Kevin Johnston

Hi Kevin,
The Church at Hanbury is St Mary the Virgin. I have a copy of the Church Records from 1577 to 1900 so they don't go far enough for your George Nash's Burial. But there are 17 Burials of people with the surname Nash in Hanbury Church. If you have any more people you would like me to look up please ask. I have found a marriage for a George Nash 27 labourer of Hanbury to Mary Albutt 40 of Tardebugge daughter of James Albutt farmer by banns 28 Nov 1889 Wit James Albutt & Elizabeth Albutt could this be your George ?
If I can help further let me know

Hello Yvon,
Thank you for taking time to have a look and send your reply. My g,g,g-grandfather was George Nash, born 1831 at Hanbury. The person you mentioned is not my George as far as I know. My George was married to Louisa Wright while working at Feckenham Lodge at Hanbury. I hope to find a grave or a record although I understand the parish record for this period of time was stolen from the church. Perhaps one day I will be able to visit and search the graves myself. If it would not be too much to ask I would like the names of the Nash's that are listed in your book, but I understand that look-up requests can be time consuming. I used to do them but stopped after my reference books became available on-line. Again thanks.

Hi Kevin,
I will do some more searching tomorrow but for now I have found George Nash illegitimate son of Sarah Nash of Hanbury , servant bapt 24th April 1831 by W Vernon.
I went to Hanbury Church last August to research my mother's family with the surname Small. A lot of the older graves are very weathered and some have been removed altogether. The later ones are okay.
I have noticed from my book that there are a lot of people with the surname Nash in Hanbury and have been since there since 1579 with two variations on the spelling Nash and Nashe. If you send me your email address I will scan the index lists ( which have the dates) for you then you can tell me which ones you are interested in. There are 86 baptisms between just 1577 and 1715. You can email me at (*)

My ancestors lived in Hanbury from about 1830, the family name was Cole. I think my 4 x gt grandmother was Eliza who, I think, died in 1840 possibly at the same time as baby Thomas. Would you be able to check this for me?

Thank you so much, it's as I feared, several little ones didn't survive long,
Maybe Elizabeth moved away to work, her step-sister Sarah I've found "in service" but I seem to have lost Elizabeth and her older sister Ann. They could have married but with such common names it's not going to be easy tracking them down. It may seem odd trying to find out what happened to such a large family I'm curious, or nosey depending which way you look at it.
Thanks again, it's been a great help.
-
You must think I'm brain dead, Ann died as you have found. I hadn't properly updated my records before I replied to you, please forgive me.
So, it's only Elizabeth to find now.....

I have resumed research on my Cole family who lived in Hanbury from 1830. I have all the baptisms and the burials (the latter thanks to you) but wonder if you would have the time to send me the 5 marriages you found between 1813 and 1900. I know the family moved away from Hanbury about 1870.
Thanks in advance,
Phoebe

I am also tracing the Cole family living in and around the Hanbury area from 1800 onwards. According to Parish and records my family were farming 30 acres in the Goosehill Green area in the 1850s.Her name was Mary born Hanbury 1799 her husband was named George they had a son named Charles born 1824.
-
My ancestor was John Cole who was born in Ombersley in 1802, lived there until about 1830 when he moved to Hanbury. He married twice (both times at St Clement's Worcester) and had twelve children in all, half of them died in infancy or childhood and are buried (as is his first wife) in Hanbury. John was a blacksmith for much of the time but was a Grocer at Vernon Arms (1851 census) which I think was the name given to the cluster of cottages near to the Inn. He moved to Birmingham between the 1851 and 1861 censuses.
As far as I know all the family moved away from Hanbury by 1861.
I don't think this is of any use to you but I thought I'd post it just in case.

Hi Yvon,
Thank you very much for this, I appreciate it very much. It looks as if none of those listed are of my direct family but I'm on the look out for the name generally so this is all very helpful. I am trying to find a reason for my Cole moving from Ombersley and wonder if the other Cole family are connected. Food for thought!
All the best,
Phoebe

Hi Phoebe and Yvon
Sorry I have not replied earlier but am very new to this forum thing. It would not be within the realms of probability that these small communities would be related in some way. My portion of the Cole family of which I am a direct descendant moved away to North Staffordshire in 1870 almost certainly to obtain work within the mines, pottery and steel industry. My G-grandfather George was born in Chaddesley Corbett in 1851. He moved to Newcastle under Lyme and married a local girl named Hannah Inskeep of Silverdale in 1874 and the rest they say is history. I also read with interest the excellent information provided by yvon. According to the 1841 census it lists the occupation of my GGG-grandfather as carpenter which makes the 2nd line of yvons last post very intriguing. The family are listed as thus and were living in Goosehill Green:
George aged 45
Mary (wife) aged 42
James (son) aged 22
Charles (son) aged 17
Elizabeth (daughter) aged13
Ann (daughter) aged 7
George (son) aged 5
I dont know if this is of any use to any one else but am finding new info all the time.
Many thanks and kind regards

Hi MrWithy,
Thank you for taking the trouble to add your Cole details. I have been spending part of a dreary afternoon looking for Coles born in Hanbury in early census returns and came across your George the Carpenter. There was a family, Joseph & Hannah, also a carpenter, in Hanbury in 1851, too, surely there was some connection? Both families were there in 1841. Where my John who was a Blacksmith then a Grocer fits in I can't see yet.
The hunt is on, I think!
