Title: AUCHTERLONIE family
Post by: aspin on Thursday 27 January 11 23:56 GMT (UK)
I am trying to find my Aucterlonie family

I think they might be around Sydney

I think he could be Andrew born 1876 Berwick upon Tweed
son of Crawford Auchterlonie and Mary Turnbull

Andrew married Elizabeth Reed in Newcastle upon Tyne 1899

I have nothing else about him

I know there were Auchterlonies in Australia about 1928 as they met another relative of mine from a ship as they returned to Australia from the UK

Thank you mfcnt

What a lovely place do they have head stones there I wonder

back in the UK I have looked up on 1911 census and cannot find the family as above stated that Elizabeth and the children sailed later

I now wonder where she was living for that year
I had a look at few Auchterlonies and she is not with any around the Newcastle Gateshead or south Shields area
Its late here and we have been out for a meal so off to my bed

The cars are all white with frost outside so have heated up the bed for a minute with the electric blanket while I answer this mail
goodnight

Elizabeth

Hi

I have not been to Botany Cemetery or as they now call it Eastern Suburbs Memorial Park for many years but there are lots of headstones in the Cemetery area, the fancy photos on the web site look like the area  near the Crematorium. From memory the cemetery area overlooks Botany Bay.

Maybe if you stated a new Topic called Eastern Sub Cemetery, and asked for a photo you might be lucky, or keep your eye on the posts,  last year I saw an offer that a Rootschatter was visiting the Cemetery and offered to take photo's,

All the best with the "cold" maybe we could send you some of our heat and humidity.

We have been to Botany Bay twice once by car the second time we took the train
If fact we enjoyed getting a day ticket from Sydney and going to where ever the train went to
also the ferries .They were just great
this time we just spent two nights in Sydney coming back from our cruise ,when we met up with a relative and we had a meal with them they live on the North side of the harbour

Have to make a trip back

Hi

My grandfather was Andrew Farmer Auchterlonie's brother. I have Andrew on 1911 census at 215 Jefferson Street, Arthurs Hill, Newcastle. He's a shipwright in a naval shipyard.

I visited Sydney a couple of years ago and made a special visit to the street he lived at in Bondi, although it was difficult to tell which one was his house.

I have quite a bit of information on him and the Auchterlonie family if anyone wants to PM me.

Hi again

Just noticed the mention of Joseph Jesmond in the electoral rolls in a previous post. It does look as if it is a name but Jesmond was actually the name of the house in Wonderland Avenue. I only know this because I have copies of 2 letters written by Andrew to Walter Savige's family in 1920s which gives Jesmond as the address.

I'd be happy to let you see a copy if you are interested.

My grandfather was Matthew (1882). As well as the names you have, there is also another brother, Thomas (1885). I have a bit of information on all of Crawford and Mary's children if you are interested.

I know a bit more about Andrew in Australia as my cousin has kept in touch with one of his descendants.
