Hi.
Isaac Rowarth is related to my family, who were all raised at Ryecroft Farm, Thornhill, Hope. My surname is spelled Roworth and this was all due to the various vicars, usually being the only ones in the village who could write and therefore wrote it down as it was pronounced. Rauworth, Raworth, etc.
Isaac and his family were originally interred in Derwent Churchyard before re-interred in Bamford Churchyard. Isaac, christened at Hope, 24/10/1847. married Mary Porritt @Heaton, Heaton Norris, Stockport in 1875. They lived at Woodthorpe Hall, Nr, Holmesfield, before moving to Snake Inn. His son Thomas kept the Fox House Inn up to WW2. Ive traced the family tree back to late 1600s and have a list dates of Isaacs Children. I have more info. If you need it!
-
My Wyatt family lived at Blackshaw Farm Glossop and I seem to remember the name Rowarth.
There may have also been a connection to the Tagg family at Hope Woodlands if I have my geography correct.Perhaps I am thinking of Derwent or the Snake Inn.

-
Hi, Harrispn2010
Is the Benjamin which you are referring to the son of Isaac? Benjamin died in 1912 and was married to Edna Chapman from Tideswell.
A Benjamin Rowarth is recorded in the 1901 Census for Manor Farm, Padley,Grindleford.
Isaac and family lived at Woodthorpe Hall, Holmesfield, and in 1878 he became Farmer and Innkeeper of the Snake Inn. See previous message of mine.
-
Interesting that the Snake Inn should be mentioned as being in Glossop because I don't think that would be the case. I should have thought it much more likely to be Derwent or Hope.

The Shepherds Society has Isaac Rowarth at the Snake Inn , via Glossop in Derwent and Woodland in 1898

The Shepherds Society has Isaac Rowarth at the Snake Inn , via Glossop in Derwent and Woodland in 1898
The "via Glossop" refers to letter delivery. I just had a look at Bulmer's 1895 Directory and Isaac Rowarth is listed as a victualler & farmer at the Snake Inn, under Hope Woodlands Township (part of Derwent Woodlands parish).

"The Swan" ceased to be a pub in 1909 and there are no Rowarths who were licensees. Maybe your ancestor bought/moved into the pub as it closed.

Hope this may fill in one or two gaps
Elias 1810-88 latterly lived at Tucker Farm Bamford, after Thornhill

Descendants of Jacob now farm at Hazelbadge Farm, Bradwell, Hope Valley.
The earliest Ancestor of mine was George Roworth/Rowarth/Raworth?? 1580-1636, Priestcliffe, Monsal Dale, Gt. Longstone. His Grandson, Anthony, 1650-1715 was the first to settle at Thornhill. My surname is spelled Roworth, it all depended on how the vicar wrote it down, the surname varied down the centuries, just look at the gravestones in Hope Churchyard!
I have a full copy of male line if you want it.
Anyone reading this with any other info. or corrections, please let me know, particularly about Mary.

7. Elias 1771-1859 m. Sarah ?, d. Mar. 25, 1821 aged 40 yr
Elias & Sarah had two boys & one girl.
8.Elias 1810, I believe you know the rest. He was the last to live at Ryecroft Farm, Thornhill
My Gt.Gt.Gt. Grandfather , William, was one of 6.Eliass brothers.
I'm a descendant of 7. Elias & Sarah's daughter Martha.
She had a son John Rauworth (apparently out of wedlock) born Aug. 31st, 1839. Christening 29 Sep 1839
She then married Charles Wood Cheetham in 1844 and together they had three children:
Ann Cheetham b. May 25, 1845
Abraham Cheetham b. July 29, 1847
Emma Amanda Cheetham b. Feb 11, 1850
Tom Cheetham b. Feb. 12, 1852
Martha lived until at least the 1881 Census when she was living in Stockport with her son Tom, and the (orphaned?) children of Ann and her husband Dionysius Berry.
