Can we have a birthyear please - only one in Perth and he was 21 and appears to be unmarried
-
Born 1819 married 1842 Kincardine on Doune.
Silly me he would have been single in 1841 need to see 1851 census
Many thanks for your quick reply

No Archibald Dow on the Parish of Kincardine 1851 census index that I have
-
He may have lived in Perth - but he wasn't born there
1851 census for Port of Menteith Perth - all born there except Archibald snr
Archibald Dow 31 farmer of 170 acres b East Indies - Prince of Wales Island
Jane 31
Archibald 8
Robert 5
Margaret 3
Alexander 1
Port of Menteith ED 1 Page 14 Line 10
Per IGI
ARCHIBALD DOW Spouse: JANE SANDS Marriage: 06 FEB 1842 Port Of Monteith, Perth
-
The 1841 entry must be the one I referred to earlier
Kilmadock Perth
Archibald McQueen 40
Archibald Dow 21
Donald McAlpine 20
Donald McNaughton 22
Charles McAlpine 15
Merran Henderson 35
Kilmadock ED 1 Page 11 Line 630
The 1841 does not show relationships or actual birthplaces. On this entry - he is shown as b Scotland - no occupation - shown as Ind (Independant means)
-
Many Thanks for that
Kate

Hi Kate do you know who Archibald's parents were? I have Dows who came from Muthill late 18th century to clear moss in Kincardine in Menteith..
-
Archibalds parents were Archibald Dow and Margaret Dow
-
Is this their marriage
ARCHIBALD LIEUTENANT DOW Spouse: MARGARET DOW
Marriage: 18 JAN 1817 Edinburgh Parish, Edinburgh, Midlothian
-
A parents search on the IGI throws up these 2 entries - in both cases parents were Archibald Dow and Margaret Dow
ALEXANDER DOW Birth: 27 MAY 1821 Christening: 29 JUN 1821 Dysart, Fife (extracted entry)
ARCHIBALD ALEXANDER DOW Birth: 09 JUN 1819 Christening: 21 JUL 1820 Burntisland, Fife (this is a submitted entry)
-
Yes that is them
Kate

If that IGI entry is your Archibald - he is shown as born Fife. However -the 1851 Archibald has a foreign birthplace which is again shown in 1861
If his birth and christening were months apart - I would assume he was born abroad but christened in Scotland. But the birth and christening are only one month apart
-
Archibald son of Archibald and Margaret was born East Indies Prince of Wales Island
-
Yes - I know. What I am saying is that the extracted IGI entry above - which you have agreed is your ancestor - shows him born in Fife, not the West Indies
Yes that is them
There is an OPR entry on Scotlands People that confirms the info on the IGI so the point I am making is that either the IGI entry is NOT your ancestor or the census entry is not him
He cannot have been born in the West Indies at the same time as born in Fife
-
Sorry have been helping someone out with this and I understood Archibald senior was born in Fife his son Archibald going by my info was born Prince Of Wales Island
-
Not according to that IGI entry so something is not right somewhere
-
It is very exciting that he was born in such a distant place, isn't it? Do you have any idea what his father might have been doing there? I believe there are a lot of records to explore from the East India Company. :)
-
Hi yes it is exciting I believe he worked for the East India Company or was in the royal navy just a couple of leads to follow
