Hi
I am interested in the Fright family http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php/topic,508816.0.html refers to a post I made seeking information in St Nicholas at Wade, but I have decided it would be better to raise a specific query with Fright as the subject to enable me to widen my search in this area.
My first query is:
Abraham Fright & Ann Payne/Pain - from the IGI married on 8th Feb 1813 St Lawrence and also 8 Feb 1714 St Mary, Minster - please can someone look up this marriage for me and confirm which date it was or is it banns on the earlier date and marriage on the later date?
Thanks in anticipation ...

I've found three FRIGHT burials in Faversham, an Abraham, & two infants called Pleasant.
Any use to you?

I've just found this thread, I have the Frights in my tree.
I have got back to John Fright b. about 1685 who married Pleasant Johncock in 1707 in Elmstone, Kent. He has a son called Abraham b. 1710 so I would imagine that your Abraham is John's brother (I don't have any siblings or parents for him yet).
None of my Frights are in Faversham, they seem mainly to be in Elmstone, Birchington, Monkton.
Pleasant seems to have been a recurrent girl's name in the family, apart from Pleasant Johncock I have found a Pleasant Fright b. 1719 and another one b. 1752, niece of the earlier Pleasant who was christened at St. Nicholas-at-Wade in 1720.
Hope this is of interest.

Hi Bevj
Thank you for this information. What yous ay is extremely interesting! I havent been able to research the Fright family any further and the Parish records on Familysearch do not cover this period I am looking for at Elmstone.
I don't know, also, how much the name Pleasant would have been used in those times?
Thanks in anticipation ...

Westwood:
Sorry I haven't been able to find my John's parents or siblings as yet.
Have you seen on familysearch another Abraham Fright christened in 1703 in Ickham, Kent, son of Abraham and Elizabeth? Again, too young to be your Abraham who married Ann Pain but it just shows that Abraham was a recurring name.
I've never encountered the Christian name Pleasant before but nothing surprises me. In the Kent side of my tree apart from Fright, I have found the surnames Startup, Sheepwash and Johncock ;D
I'll let you know if I uncover anything.

That would be great; I am sure over time things will become clearer ;D

Probably unrelated, but a John Fright was living in Newnham near Faversham in 1771, married Eliz. Elliott in that year and had son James born 1783 in Newnham.

According to the transcriptions of the Kent Family History Society both St Laurence and St Mary's, Minster have entries for the marriage.
St Laurence - Abraham Fright and Ann Payne 8 Feb 1713/14 both said to be of the Parish.
St Mary Minster - Abraham Fright and Ann Pain 8 Feb 1714 both of the Parish of St Laurence!
The date confusion 1713/14 probably due to the Ecclesiastical year running form Lady Day to Lady Day and not from 1 Jan to 31 Dec.
The couple had 9 children baptised in St Laurence between June 1715 and 1736.

Abraham, 25 August 1723
Thomas, 7 November 1725
Sarah, 31 August 1729

Hi
I am new to this forum and am looking for any details of Abraham Fright born some time around 1710 married to Elizabeth ?
They were the parents of John Fright 1746 - 1794, married to Sarah ?. Who in turn, were the parents of John Fright 1787 - 1830 who I have tracked back to myself born in 1933
Any help will be appreciated
Regards
David

I have an Abraham Fright in my tree baptised in Wickhambreux, Kent, on 4th January 1711.
He was the son of John Fright and Pleasant Fright née Johncock.
I'm afraid that I have no further information about Abraham as I am descended from his brother Stephen.
I do have a small amount of info about his parents and siblings if you are interested.

I have not found a baptism for Abraham Fright.
However are we looking for the Abraham Fright buried at Graveney on 17 September 1784 aged 73 and said to be a Labourer? ???
If so, there is another burial in that Parish dated 17 April 1782 of an Elizabeth Fright aged 69.
Apart from a burial of a young maiden Susan Fright in 1719 and a much later marriage, there appears to be no connection with that Parish!
There is a marriage dated 21 October 1744 at Faversham between Abraham Fright and Elizabeth Drury. This is followed by the baptisms of three children, Abraham in 1745, John16 November 1746 and lastly Pleasant in 1748. All at Faversham.
Then on 1 October 1769 John Fright marries Sarah Goodgroom, again at Faversham. John and Sarah had seven children baptised at Faversham, between 1770 and 1787.
Hope this helps in some small way.

Hi Tony
I can't speak for David (Frightful) but you have filled in a space in my tree!
Given the name of Abraham and Elizabeth Drury's daughter (Pleasant) I'm sure this is the right branch.
They do seem to wander around. I have John sr. and Pleasant's first child born in Elmstone. The baptism for Abraham I have is in Wickhambreaux. the next child who appears to have been buried unnamed (or the christian name is not recorded) was also born and buried in Wickhambreaux. Then daughter Pleasant in St. Nicholas at Wade, and finally Stephen (my ancestor) in Monkton.
I'm afraid that my knowledge of the geography of the region is scant and I don't know if all these villages are close together.
Bev
P.S: FamilySearch shows another baptism,
Drury Fright son of Abraham and Elizabeth christened on 2nd February 1752 at Luddenham. Yet another village in the puzzle.

Hi Tony and Bev
Thank you both, I shall get back to you when I'm back home after the weekend but you have both been helpful. I did find that 'my' Abraham's wife Elizabeth's maiden name was Drury. There's also other bits that go together which I will check with my notes next week.
I''m so glad I found this site.
Kind regards
David

My geography of that area is a bit rusty. I went to school in Faversham in the early 1960s and the Art Block (as it was known) backed onto the Churchyard Wall of the Parish Church. I am now more familiar with Monkton and the Isle of Thanet.
Luddenham and Graveney both are parishes, if not bordering, very close to Faversham.
Drury is a name I have come across in another nearby Parish, Boughton under Blean. Not sure if your Elizabeth comes from there but I will have a look.

Hi there Tony and Bev
@Tony, it looks like the Abraham buried in 1784 will be the one that Bev has, born in 1711. This ties in nicely with Elizabeth Drury being buried in the same place. One of the offspring, John, born in 1746 is on my tree and is shown as married to Sarah Goodgroom.
@Bev You have given me the parents of Abraham who was as far as I had got in that direction: John and Pleasant ( what a lovely name ). I can now research them and hopefully get enough to include them in my tree. Any details you have of them would be really helpful.
Thank you both very much for your help.
Kind regards
David

John Fright, of Elmstone married
Pleasant Johncock of Ash on
26 April 1707 at Elmstone
Another piece in the jigsaw. ???
Tony :)

I have Richard Johncock marrying Elizabeth Fanting in Herne on 3rd May 1683. (d.o.b.'s unknown)
Their children found so far:
Pleasant m. John Fright 26th December 1707 in Elmstone.
Richard
Thomas m. Susannah Harrison and had a lot of Fright children in Chislet.
All three children baptised in September 1686 as a 'job lot', so I don't know the year of their birth.

At Ickham there are four baptisms for Fright children to Laurence and Mary, unfortunately there is no John!
Abraham 1666
Edward 1670
Laurence 1674
Mary 1681
Most if not all of these have been mis-transcribed in various ways.
These are followed by a marriage (dated 1702 April 19) of Abraham Fright to Elizabeth Baker at Ickham and both are said to be of the Parish.
I have looked again at the marriage of John Fright to Pleasant Johncock in 1706 and cannot decipher the month but realise that is after July; previous marriage. :-[
Nothing really of help but it does confirm Frights in the area. ???
Tony :)
