HMS E30
22 November 1916
Possibly mined off Orford Ness
E30 left Harwich on November 15th. Sunk in the North Sea, possibly due to a mine off Orford Ness. The minefield was not located until 25th November.

Lisa..Hello I hope you read this as i have joined this site to give you info on your Great Grandad who died on HMS E30 in 1916...he was returning to Blyth Sub base after a Patrol someone in the Battery Compartment threw a wrong switch and the was an explosion 3 Submariners were killed..sadly your Great grandad was one of the poor souls..all the Crew of E30 put money into a Collection for them to buy a Memorial in their Memory..he is Buried with his Shipmates in Blyth Cemetry Northumberland I usually visit Remebrance Day and put Poppy's or Flowers on the grave as it has always made me curious so i researched it some years ago that's how I know as much about it..I do have a photo of the Headstone if you would like a copy

Hi Lisa
While researching my Family Tree, I have discovered that John Smith was the brother of my wife's grandfather Albert Smith
who lived in Patna, Scotland but came from Manchester originally born in 1897.If interested, please get in touch as we do
not have any information about the English side of the family.
