Title: 2 lost children, help with baptism records
Post by: mandy_west123 on Monday 17 January 11 17:18 GMT (UK)
Hi,

I have a problem finding 2 children who died between the census' to Alfred Lee and Maggie May. They were living in the St.John/Cudworth area in 1901 but by 1911 they are living in Nottingham.
When I looked at the 1911 census it says there were 2 children which didn't survive so must have died between 1903 (when their daughter Sarah Ann was born)and 1911 (when my gran Rosina was born).
I would really love to know the names of these children and their dates of birth as I've almost finished researching all of this side of my family.
Many thanks for any help, it's much appreciated :)
Mandy

Have you checked freebmd for likely births/deaths in both Yorkshire and Notts?

If they moved from Yorkshire - Nottingham sometime between 1903-1911 - the children could have been born/died  in either area

They married in 1898 and had 2 children on the 1901 census, the youngest of which was only 2 weeks old

So if Sarah was their next child b 1903 in Yorkshire - when did they move to Notts?

Lee is a very common surname and there are lots of births in both Yorkshire and Notts

Barnsley was the registration district for Cudworth

Hi there,
thanks-you so mcuh for your reply :)
I have no idea when they moved back to Notts so the children could have been born inn either county - so that and the surname Lee has made this one really tricky!!
I've sat and done a whole list of all Lee children that died between 1904 and 1910 in both areas, crickey, how many?  :o
I was just hoping that someone might have the baptism records to hand so I could either find them or cross the area off my list of where to look next. I've tried the family search website too with no luck, and also checked at the Nottingham archives for baptisms for the area they were living in in Notts, again, no luck  ???

Thanks again  :D

Hiya Mandy
The reason I asked for an address is because I've found the burials for the twin boys and it says 10 Wilson Street doesn't say Barnsley or Cudworth but the records I'm looking at were Barnsley. So it might be back to the drawing board if I find anything else I'll get back to you but it might not be tonight.

Hiya Mandy
I can't find a better match than those twin boys but I can't say for sure they are yours.I've looked for St Johns on the internet and there is a St Johns Church Cudworth Index to the Monumental Inscriptions and it does list the surname Lee and gives 3 plot numbers N12, R31, S14.
The information on the net for St Johns is a bit misleading  because it says Sorry no contact email is available but underneath the address is a send an e-mail box so you could try it and see what happens or write and ask about who's buried in those plot numbers.
The address just incase you can't find it on the internet is
The Vicarage
St Johns Road
Cudworth
Barnsley
S72 8DD
Phone number 01226 710279

Between 1904-1910 there are over 100 Lee births in the Nottingham RD and about 65 in the Barnsley RD

With no baptisms - you are left with cross matching each of those births to a corresponding death between the birthyear and the 1911 census

Having found a death- you would then still have to purchase the birth cert to find if it was the right parents - could prove quite costly at £9.25 per cert

Hi there,

thank-you so much for your help with this. I had a look at the address you found for the twin boys and the road which was given as their address on the 1901 and they are very close.
Would it be possible for someone to check the electoral register for 10 Wilson Street, Barnsley?
The odd thing I discovered was that almost all their children were conceived April-ish time and born the following January time! Poor Maggie didn't seem to get a minute's peace and was only un-pregnant for a few months after giving birth before she was pregnant again!! The twins birth doesn't overlap any other pregnancy she had but it's very close!
I also checked the website with all the memorial inscriptions, no luck :(
So, does anybody have access to the electoral register for 1902, Wilson Street, Barnsley and would they be a treasure and have a look to see if a Mr Alfred Lee is there? :)
I'd be so grateful and this family has been really difficult to research!!
Many thanks
Mandy

Hiya Mandy
The Electoral Rolls are held at the main library in Barnsley you could always ring and ask if the staff could look for you
