Title: Howden Church - Goerge ELAND
Post by: goff153 on Monday 17 January 11 15:17 GMT (UK)
Laid as part of the path to the main door of Howden Church is a tombstone to an ancestor of mine - George ELAND.  Some years ago I took a photo of it (in pre digital days) and the print has somehow been lost.  If anyone is passing with a camera I would be most grateful if they could photograph it for me.  Kind regards, Godfrey Eland

Hi Godfrey...Have you tried "Google Earth"...Also I have just been on Google maps having typed in "Howden Methosist Church" and the images are really good...worth a try...I know a few people who have got stills of premises in this way.
Good Luck!

That really is very kind of you.  I wish I could be more specific - I thought the stone was close to the church door - my wife thinks it was near the gate to the churchyard - sorry!

Please don't go to too much trouble but it would be great if you found it.

My email is ................
Kind regards

Godfrey

Hello Godfrey,
I visited Howden minster this morning and it looks as if the approach to the church from the front gate has recently been re-laid, there are only 3 or 4 gravestones in the path now and unfortunately no Eland stone. I will try and find out what has happened to the stones that have been removed from the path and if I can find it I will forward the photo to you though it may take me a while.
Regards
Trev
