I know of Bethlehem Congregational Chapelyard and Calfaria Welsh Baptist Chapelyard in Forestfach.

The only Council cemetery open at that time was Danygraig which opened in 1856.

Others will probably be able to add to those.

Hello Bronwyn
Welcome to Rootschat  :)

Do you know where your GG Grandfather lived in 1861 and the address from the 1869 death certificate? People often walked many miles to work so he may not have lived in Fforestfach. They didn't necessarily attend Church or Chapel in their own Parish either, but freqently walked a few miles to attend one of their chosen denomination. Many Chapels had their own graveyards like Bethlehem and Calfaria, mentioned by bevbee.

Have you found the family on 1861/1871 census? Post any details you have to help narrow down possible burial locations.

Updated: I see from the other post that his name was David Jones so that's nice and easy  ;D  I can see David Hosea Jones age 31 and David Howell Jones age 42 in 1869 (Dec Q), and 73 year old David Jones in the following quarter.

Probably found David Hosea Jones, collier,  age 22 in 1861, as his father had the same name. Living at Gorse Lane, Swansea (from district 14 description, likely to be in Cwmbwrla/Cockett area. There is Heol-y-gors and Gors Ave on current map. From the nearby properties, it's looks like the part of Gors Lane nearest to Cwmbach Rd which is Cockett area.)

Hello Morgan,
 Thanks for the reply
I have David on the 1851/1861/1871 census living with his family.
1851 census the family is living at Weig Fach,
1861 census living Gorse Lane swansea

David married Sarah Rees in 1862 she is at home with her family in the 1861 census(I have marriage Cert)
Then i found Sarah in the 1871 census with her family as a widow so i got the last child born birth cert which was Sarah and on her cert it has father as David and he is deceased. They were living at Ravenhill Swansea Higher.

So i went thru the death  on fbdm and i found a couple of David Jones so i got the death certs and  David Hosea Jones was the only one that was the right area etc  and on that it has he died New Pit Worcester Colliery Parish of Swansea.
I have been looking around the Cockett,Ravenhill,Swansea Higher area.

When David and Sarah married on marriage cert it has his residence near St Peters Church,Cockett.
They got married in the Registers Office of Swansea
They only used the name David Hosea Jones on his death cert.

Kind Regards

The coroners records I've seen at WGAS are individual cases each in a manilla folder. Not a lot of papers in the ones I saw but useful stuff like the names of the coroner's jury, circumstances and cause of death. Quite interesting.

Checked the Cambrian Article - does refer to John not David Hosea Jones but clearly an error. Very little in the article.

Checked the Coroner's records and took a copy of the inquest into David's death. It includes 2 descriptions from witnesses. They appear beautifully written by the Clerk recording the statements but, unfortunately, are virtually imposible to read - and I was reading the originals!!

Overall, they don't add to much, if anything, to David's personal details.

Can send images if you would like - need your e.mail address via PM.

All the addresses are within the immediate vicinity of St Peters Church, Cocket which does have a burial ground.  :)
