Does anyone know how I can find out more information on Johanna? All that I have is she was born in 1872 in Finland, died in 1918 in New York City. She was married to Gabriel Parola. Apparently she went from Finland to Austria and than to America. I can't find her anywhere other than with Gabriel in a few of the New York Census and the children she gave birth to here. I would like to find out more about her family. She had a son, Emil or Amil that Gabriel adopted so she may have been married before. How do I find out where she was born, her parents, etc. Any help would be so appreciated.

Familysearch pilot has an Emil Parila arriving Ellis Island from Kymi in Finland aged 22 on 28 Nov 1912. Could this be Johanne's son? I tried Gabriel and Johanna's name, but didn't get any immigration record in familysearch. Have you tried the Ellis Island site? http://www.ellisisland.org/. kaysii

https://www.familysearch.org/ seems to have what may be this family in the 1900 census of New York but indexed as "Maronia". From the image it's definitely not "Parola" (enumerator error? Looks like he wrote it down with an "M"). This shows she came to the US in 1891, had Emil in 1894 in New York, and then married Gabriel about 1895.
Their marriage is on the same site under "Gabriel Perola" to "Stina Johanna Valkeinen" and gives her parents' names.

Thank you both so much. This is just what I was looking for. Funny, I was on Family Search and could not find anything on Gabriel Parola. Probably because I didn't have the correct spelling. Their name was messed up in every Census too! I am wondering if Emil was in Kymi, Finland to visit family? I am going to start there with my search. Thank you again.

Hi Kaysii and Jorose,
I have been researching the names given in the marriage certificate but to no avail. I can't find any other information on other children of both Gabriel and Stina Johanna's parents. I tried everything in FamilySearch and on Ancestry. I tried looking in different Finland sites too, some I just couldn't get past the language barrier. Only thing I found was the NY 1905 Census but I have all of that information already. How do I even find out the location of their birth/parents birth? Is their another site I can try?
I know it is mentioned as Finnish/Russian in some of the Census. Thank you.

Do you know if Gabriel ever became a US citizen? (he seems to be still listed as "Al" on 1900 and 1905). That might list a location in Finland for him.
Perhaps try: http://finlander.genealogia.fi/
(linking in other thread which has some census data: http://www.rootschat.com/forum/index.php?topic=452731.0 )
