Title: **Completed** Hello I'm new! And very much a beginner - looking for a Lawson
Post by: Mydgie on Sunday 16 January 11 12:35 GMT (UK)
Hi all,

First of all, hello to the forum! I've been reading through some threads for a while now and have found it all very interesting and helpful.

My interests are the Muirs from Dalget(t)y as well as the Livingstons and Beveridges. Also, eventually I want to find out why my Muirs moved from Dalgety to Glasgow, but that's a backburner project.

I'm currently stuck on trying to find a link for my GGG-grandmother.

I would be very grateful if anyone could help me with some information regarding her.

Catherine Lawson born 1810 in Dalgetty, Fife. She also appeared on 1851 census as Catherine Sawson but haven't been able to find any other references to this name.
She married Walter Muir in September of 1833.
She died 24 April 1884.

What I'm trying to find out is who her parents and siblings were and I'm drawing a total blank.
I've found a family tree on ancestry that says her father was a Robinson and her mother a Renwick, although no citations for this.

Would someone be able to point me in the right direction?

Thanks!  :)

Hi Mydgie,

Welcome to RootsChat  :)

Since Catherine died after 1855 when civil registration was introduced in Scotland, her death certificate (she did die there rather than England?) should list both her parents' names, as given by the informant of her death.  They may not be totally correct (it does happen) but could be a starting point for further research.

You can view the entry at ScotlandsPeople for a small fee:

Hello to you both.

Nell, thank you for the advice - I think I can use that to track down the other maternal lines that seem so hard to find.

George, thank you very much for looking on Scotland's People for me. I've had a look at the website and will be signing up to dig around some more.

What a great, friendly welcome :)
