My G Grandmother was Eupemia Jane Brown. In 1883 she married Thomas George Brodie b1857 IOM who was a butler in Craigforth House Stirling. Witnesses include Mr Robert Oliver Brodie who was listed as a Letter press printer of 59 Broughton Street Edinburgh also Ellenor Susan Brown of Renton Hall Farm Haddington. I would be very grateful if anyone has any information which might help in my ancestral research.

Hi Novac
What information do you already have on Euphemia and Thomas? Have you found them on the later censuses following their 1883 marriage? From their marriage cert which should include full details on their parents' names, have you been able to find them in the earlier censuses to see their extended family and their birth entries?
Monica :)

I think from one of the previous posts, that Isobelruss possible 1851 census entry is likely to be the correct one. From 1861 in Anglesey I.O.M., after Thomas' birth you have:
William Brodie 39, gardener b. Scotland
Agnes Brodie 39 b. Scotland
William Brodie 15 b. Arbory
Ann M Brodie 13 b. Santon
James Brodie 8 b. Santon
Thomas G Brodie 3 b. Santon
Robert O Brodie 4 Months b. Santon
On IGI at www.familysearch.org/Eng/Search/frameset_search.asp?PAGE=igi/search_IGI.asp&clear_form=true possible birth entry for youngest Robert:
Robert Oliver Brodie, b. 26 Nov. 1860 and chr. 6 Jan. 1861 in Santon - Parents William Brodie and Agnes Oliver.
Likely the witness you have on Thomas and Euphemia's marriage entry you would think.

Sancti, that possible census entry you found in 1881 for Thomas' mother looks good - there is a death showing on the pay to view site, Novac, www.scotlandspeople.gov.uk in 1882 in Edinburgh for an Agnes Brodie/Oliver (born c. 1822). Scottish death certs include full names for parents of the deceased, if known to the informant.

Not sure on that 1881 entry for Euphemia, Sancti... Think her parents may have been a James Brown and a Margaret George.
At least 7 children show as born to this couple, all births in Athelstaneford, East Lothian. These include a Helen Susan Brown in 1853 (likely witness at the marriage in 1883) and Euphemia Jane Brown on 10 April 1858 (there is a Euphemia Margaret Brown showing as born in early 1857, likely died as a baby and name re-used).

Hi,
From the IGI as extracted records,
Thomas George Brodie born 28 Nov 1857 Santon, IOM to parents, William Brodie and Margaret Oliver.
Witness Robert Oliver Brodie born 26 Nov 1860 at Santon, IOM to parents, William Brodie and Agnes Oliver.
Is this the same father marrying sister A, she dies then he marries sister B, or are records wrong?

I wonder if that is a mistranscription from the source of the records Tom? Isobelruss found this possible 1851 census entry in I.O.M for 1851 (from that earlier link):
William Brodie 28 gardener b Scotland
Agnes 28 wife b ditto
William 5 son b Ireland
Anna M 3 dau b Arbory Isle of Man
Cropag Road,Malew Isle of Man
HO107 2526/95/2

For the Browns in Athelstaneford, likely entry for the family in 1861 - everyone showing as born in Athelstaneford unless shown:
James Brown 44, master joiner
Margaret Brown (George) 35 b. Edinburgh
Elizabeth Mary Brown 13
Charles Robert Brown 9
Ellen Susan Brown 7
Euphemia Jane Brown 2
Margaret Fanny Brown 4 Months
Euphemia George 65, mother in law, fundholder
Jane Dawson 32, visitor, fundholder b. Haddington
Address: Village Of Athelstaneford, East Lothian
