hello
31/7/1871 Michael McKeown, son of Peter McKeown/Mary Hughes, Castleblayney, Newtownhamilton, Co. Armagh
This is my great great grand father I had him down as about 1872 but have his marraige to Susan McKinley 5/6/02 which gives his father as Peter then my grandfather James born 1910 and father Michael born 1945
So thanks to this I have his birthdate now need to look further back for mary hughes and peter mckeown.
Thanks
Paul

Peter M'Keown's marriage to Mary Hughes was registered in Castleblaney 1870 Volume 1, page 494. If you get a copy of the marriage cert you should get their fathers names, their residences at the time of the marriage and witness details, all of which should help you take the family back.

Hi,
26 Feb 1870 Peter McKeown, father Henry, married Mary Hughes, father Michael, in Crossmaglen Roman Catholic Church, Castleblaney District.

Never heard mention a henry in mckeown line, michael seems to repeat every second line naming first son after grandfathers? common in ireland.

Hi,
That is the Irish naming pattern but it is not written in stone. I have double checked my information and it is as stated.

I found reference to a henry mckeown in the same small townland prior to that so fits but new to me.
Just need to find a birth for peter and more details on Henry.
Any suggestions on where to search?

Hi,
You will have to depend on church records as Peter's birth was before civil registration started (1864) and Henry's marriage if R.C. will also be before civil registration.
